Glove box light?

When I got my car of course I noticed the foot area lighting, console pocket lighting, etc. I figured it was odd that it didn't seem to have a glove box light. Then I was working in the car and noticed what looks like an LED in there. Is that what it is? And should it be on any time I open the glove box? Just when the key is on?

Anyway, any insight would be appreciated. No mention of it in the owners manual.

UPDATE: instead of replying and bumping yet another bonehead mistake to the top of the forum I'll just edit this post

Short answer, headlights have to be on before the glovebox light turns on. Doh! My last car had a switch so it came on no matter what.
