You guys are all pretty much saying the same thing. I believe the Honda has 270 hp (pretty good) I think the torque is down cant remember. FWD drive line loss maybe 12% AWD drive line loss like 15%. 270 - (12%) = 238 WHP 293 - (15%) = 249 WHP. Trap speed is a pretty close indication of HP. 103 to 100 could be 10HP. The Honda is probably an auto so repeating the time and speed any dumby can do. Launch and shift perfect 6 times takes more skill. If the honda gets the jump you may not be able to catch up. I believe an STI can be modded much easier and takes to it better, but a stock STI has its hands full with these new cars. Thats why Subaru needs a power boost next year, or they will be way behind. I really think its coming in 09.**

Drivetrain loss in an STI is close to 30%

This thread is a waste of time as you are comparing the performance between two fundamentally different cars

Haha, yea I agree its a pointless comparison.

I think that might be half the point the OP is making though. These two fundementally different cars. The sti being a "sports car" and the Honda being more of a "affordable luxury car"- thats probably not the best classification. Anyway the sti should win being in the dedicated sports car category.

Anyway the sti deserves a bump in power and if not just take that Honda to the twisties and show him whats up.

If you want a 1/4 mile car buy a mustang. I am sure we bought our Sti's for driving. Not hill billy racing

And yeah I know it's not about straight line speed, but guess what? Straight line speed matters and getting rolled by an accord or neon with a boost controller is a serious problem.

....a serious problem?? stop "racing" on your way to work. Take your car out to the track or the mountains and see what happens to an accord, a neon, a corvette, a srt8 or for that matter 99% of the cars out their. You will no longer feel small.

I don't want to get into it, but these short gears were not meant for you to feel "cool" on a straight line.

Stock for stock, a C5, C6 vette will hand the sti it's a$$. Assuming the drivers are of equal ability.

Yeah, and a $22k VW GTI with a $500 chip will probably pull on a stock STi too, who cares? Let the owners have their "thing." Because they've got nothing else on the STi, performance related of course.

I recall a magazine article that put the STi against the latest Mustang GT500. The STi spanked it in every category... except at the drag strip. Oh darn.

I saw that. If the sti had 500hp, i'm sure the outcome of the drag race would have been different

Who said anything about racing on the way to work??? The point is that a dedicated sports car should be able to pull on an accord. Subaru needs 400hp or it's gonna lose it's edge.
