Question 08 drivability

Other than the lean stock tune are the same drivability issues found on the 08 as the 07

Which issues specifically would those be? The 08 feels quite a bit different because the chassis is stiffer and the suspension is a bit looser. It won't hurt your back/butt like earlier models.

All I can say is drive one if you can. I know it's a copout to say this but it's the same car only different. Read the reviews from the guys here and the stuff on the web. It's basically correct. But until I drove the car I wasn't convinced that I'd like it. Hell, I didn't even like the body style until I saw the thing in person. And let me tell you, it's freakin' beautiful in the flesh. The drive is great. You can tweak and tune the way it feels. You've got more control over everything what with the addition of VDC (which is fully controllable), the new "Auto +" and "Auto -" of the DCCD and the SI Drive. Some are gonna hate on this car no matter what. They just don't wanna let go of the old GD machines and all. If Petter and Atkinson can learn to push this car to the max on the WRC circuit, I think Subaru has a chance at dominating again. It's obvious that the old GD style just can't compete anymore in the WRC. It's still a great car, but it's time for the new. So back to your original question, Drivability. Yeah, it's a great car. And from what I've read, you stick a AP on this thing with a Stage 1 map and it's like a bomb on wheels. Drive one.

Yeah,,, My main drivability issue is:

Im taking corners so fast
my passengers, get scared....

This car is sooooo confidence inspiring, one almost feels guilty!

Not pertinent to this thread...but this is EXACTLY how I felt. The 08 manifests all its glory in person...that way when someone sees you in their rear view...they know to get the f**k out of the way!

What i wanted to know is if the bucking-hesitation that i had to correct on my 07 is also inbreed in the o8 stock tune , not ride quality just is it dialed in as far as linear and smooth throttle. the 07 was horrible until jorge at p&l tuned it thanks for the input.

To me the car has three distinctly different personalities!

I mode,
S,
and
S#

I had the 05 LGT, that was the first car to report the "rough Idle" and response, after a factory ECU replacement, it was fixed...

This 08 STI, seems to be more like the LGT (Idle and Liner power delivery)
after the "FIX"!

Havnt noticed any problems.
Infact Its so Smooooooth, other STI guys are claiming it feels slower... however, the Numbers disagree..
The car is deceptively fast! if your not carefull your speeding (got a ticket yesterday, and to me I felt like I was at Idle)

Seems to me Boxers all shuffle from side to side a little...

Still I hear with the AP stage 1 any issues of leanness are fixed.>

I don't have the hesitation problem (as of yet) that guys with the '07s had. The comment above about the LGT feel is spot on. The car is much more linear feeling. No 'bucking' from mine. There's a thread over on "that other board" about the '08 and why it shouldn't have the hesitation problems. Some discussions here also. If you do a search here and there you can find some good, more in-depth analysis of why and/or why not.

+1!

On the way to the movies yesterday we came to a light in a part of town where I used to work. The restaurant was to the left but a set of 25 mph, 70° S-curves were to the right. In an 08, w/4 security-squad-sized adults, we met "the rule".

the first number is the gear you select
the second number is multiplied by 10 for the speed with which to take the corner.

2nd gear @ 50+, S#, Auto all the way! Into the boost and well-behaved.

My SiL was grinning ear-to-ear. The ladies in the back seat were holding on tight to the 0h-sh** bars. The car was glued to the ground behaving well over the irregularities in the tarmac and allowing for minor adjustments in my line as I avoided a pot hole or two.

Me likes!

I had an '07 before my '08, so I know exactly what you are asking and can answer it: yes, they got rid of the hesitation and other drivability issues that dogged the '07s. The '08 runs and pulls a lot smoother.

And, with the Cobb Stage 1 @ 91 Octane map, throttle response is even smoother throughout all modes (I, S, S#) while kicking you in the seat of the pants more smartly (than stock) when getting onto the boost in the higher RPMs!
