Default Tinted tail light overlays :)

No need for before photos, we all know how horridly chrome they are Installed these today on atl_sti's sti. The vinyl overlays are from bluebat, and are his darkest ones (6/10).

cheers,
ak

i have similar tint's on my wrx .. imo they are the coolest mods, and are a must for all 08's...
What did u mean by (6/10) is that like 60% opacity? or what?

Looks like sunglasses, lol! It looks pretty sick, sleek yet aggressive. Hope it doesn't mess with the safety factor like someone else metioned.....

Bluebatmobile's 6/10 is the equivalent of 32% window tint IIRC.

We tested out the visibility of each function for them and agreed that everything was still quite visible.

Are they available at about 1/2 the tint? I want them lightly tinted. Not interested in bieng hassled by 50. Also don't want to make the lights less finctional. Those overlays are way too dark for my taste.

Wht can you tell us about the install?

Yes sir, these are 32%. Andrew (bluebat) also has a 60% iirc.

I got mine from hotsubarus.com, the middle tint level. The install wasn't too bad, although I have a few small bubbles because I've never tinted anything in my life. Still way better than stock. A heatgun will make it way easier to stretch the vinyl around the curves. My advice is to use lots of water so you can play around a bit and slide it before using the squeegee. The panels on the hatch are super easy, it's the curves on the sides that are hard. Just take your time and be patient, and if you use a heatgun put it on low so you don't scar the hot plastic with the squeegee. The tail lights are still quite bright with the tint on as well in my opinion, and I've driven with cops behind me on many occasions and they never give it a second glance. And who brakes anyway? Shouldn't you be practicing your rev matching?

Looks awesome but... I think it does restrict the brightness a bit too much for my liking.

I wondering if some one rearends you and complain that they couldn't see your brakelights clearly would that be a problem with insurance especailly in Canada where tinting lights is illegal.

Those all look great, but a bit too dark for me,i'd be worried about the visability for those following, esp in the bright Cali sunshine.
I went for a lot lighter tint (gunsmoke from lamin-x), and also got a pro to install with heatgun, 1 look at those outer lamps convinced me i didnt have a hope. not just curved but with bumps too!

There's always the third brake light, most people have a hard time missing that one. Regardless at night I honestly can't tell a difference in brightness; I'm sure they're dimmer in a direct comparison, but they are not so dim that someone who didn't know the lights were tinted would say "wow your tails are dim." Here in Colorado I checked the law and as long as everything blinks the right color and reverse lights are visible everything is ok - no rules regarding brightness. This is one reason I went with smoke instead of red.

same here. i've had smoked tails on all my GTIs and have asked my neighbor (police) about it and he said as long as all the lights still function as they did from the manufacturer then its perfectly fine.
