I just removed one of my tails and gave it a really good look...I think it would be very difficult to access the chrome piece inside. You could do it, but you better be damn skilled with a dremel. I think I will just wait for some aftermarket tails since I really don't care for the fact that the overlays reduce the visibility of the lights...that combined with the stopping ability of the STI and driving with the idiots around DC is just a recipe for disaster.

It should be just glued.

Do you know what kind of Glue? If we knew that then we could just soak the lights in something that would dissolve the glue, but not the plastics...that would be great. I don't know if you could put the tails in the oven like you could the headlamps, but i'm no materials engineer so I have no clue.

my tint guy tried it today. Got the easy ones on and gave up on the curved tails. So now I have this ridiculous disco altezza thing going on.

The tint guy said it was too curved to do it. I told him other people had done it. I don't know what to do. If the tint guy couldnt do it I guess I have to try it myself. Would the full reds be easier than the cutout reds? Did you guys use relief cuts? aside from the hairdryer and some soap and water, what else do I need to know.

Help someone.

dude... i hope you didn't have to pay him for messing it up. the triangle pieces are easy, i applied those myself... my tint guy was *****ing quite a bit but a tint guy with experience and some patience should be able to do the corners in an hours time. thats how long it took my tint guy.

if you are going to attempt it yourself, i would ditch the house hold hair dryer and go with a professional heatgun. if you can find one with temp control on it even better.

i did it w/ a really good hair dryer. I used to tint cars and I still wouldn't trust that film with a heatgun (or I guess trust myself ). It got really loose FAST with the blow dryer on high. As long as you can stretch the film it won't matter heatgun vs hair dryer. The key is not to tear or burn the film.

Photo: I did this myself and the tails were FAR easier for me than the headlights. At some point i'll be ordering a new set of film for the headlights and redoing them. I'm not too happy with how my first attempt went.

I can inquire about it, I doubt they'll be cheap though

Why? I used a $12 hair dryer from wal-mart without any problems...

To do any of this, all it takes is patience.

Oh and sometimes it takes Andrew (BlueBat) a couple days to return his emails.

well, my advise is really for those who know they are not crafty and dont have experience with tints like me. i attempted to do the overlays myself like many others and had horrible results. i blame my uncraftiness, crappy dryer, and no patience.

I believe you would be making quite a mistake if you put these in the oven. Generally tail lights are made of a much thinner plastic (compared to headlights) and have a tendency to melt vs open up (as headlights would). If you wanted to open them you would need a "hot knife" and literally slice them open. You could then do as you wanted. Finally, you would seal them back up, check for a good seal and reinstall.

Is there no option where we could take the car itself and have somebody like spray a tint on it or replace the whole section of the lights to look like this?http://www.tintmyride.ca/images/gall...1_2007_gti.jpg

http://www.geocities.com/ronin5729/R...ViewWebPic.jpg Or are they like not out yet?
