Default V1 Radar Detector Hook up in 08 STI

Hey, has anyone hooked their V1 radar detector up to the map lights (actually to the homelink mirror wires in the map lights) yet? I had it hooked up on my old WRX no problem, but when I went to hook it up on my new STI the wire colours are different and I don't have a voltmeter anymore. I played around and tryed to get the Y-clip hooked into the power but i was able to get any power at all.

Can anyone confim which color wire is the 12V power???

Thanks very much.......

And yes I have read the entire thread about hooking up the V1 but its all relating to 05-07's and my wires are not the same.....any help is much appreciated.

Cheers,

I've got mine hooked up to the map light. I believe the blue wire is the switched hot.

I put the ground under one of the screws that holds the map light module to the roof.

However, I don't have homelink, just the dimming mirror with compass. YMMV.

How many wires are there and what are the colors?

From experience, the black is usually ground.

If I remember correctly, there was a white, blue and green. There's a black ground wire too, but the V1 hardwire kit has one clip-on wire splice for the hot, and the ground has a lug, which is meant to go under a screw.

Thnaks Guys, I actually figured it out and now have it all hooked up. I didn't hook it up to the map lights because that one is always on even when the keys not in the ignition. So if you forget to turn the V1 off its draining the battery, but probbaly not a big deal. I hooked my up to the wires for the Hoemlink mirror, even if you don't have the mirror (I don't) the wires are still there for it just fish around. there are three wires in this one a yellow with a stripe and a brown with a stripe and a black, I bought a voltmeter and tested the only hot one is the yellow with a stripe, so I hooked it up to that one. this way when I turn the car off, teh V1 goes off automatically as well.

Cheers,

Did you get the concealed display too or just hardwired?

I'm interested in ideas for installing the concealed display. I just have mine hardwired right now.

On my previous car I ran the cable to the display behind the driver's side A-pillar and mounted the display in the corner near the windscreen.

Since the STI has side curtain airbags behind the A-pillar covers, I'm hesitant to do the same here.

I didn't hook up the concelled display, personally I don't really see the advantage. I just used the suction cups and stuck it just above the rear view mirror on the passenger side, itis actually pretty stealth right there, the mirror does a good job of hiding it. Ands its still easy for me to get to.

But if you want to hook up the other display, the way to go would probably be to run the cord along the headliner and down the drivers side A-pillar then you could put the other display on the corner of the Dash or in the console. Check ut this thread for more ideas of where people have put there other displays
