Default SPT versus Aftermarket mods?

Can someone explain to me if the SPT stuff is better, i.e. more reliable and/or performant? I notice a lot of folks like Cobb even if SPT is available.

SPT is good but doesn't offer the maximum performance you could get with other brands. For instance and SPT exhaust is 3" but has a 2.5" flange which can reduce power on a car with an upgraded turbo. At stage 2 though you won't be giving anything up with the SPT. The SPT intake on the other hand reportedly reduces power. I use the SPT intake but can't comment on it losing power because the dealer put the intake on before I bought it. I can say that my stage 2 car with SPT intake and exhaust puts down as much number as other stage 2 cars tuned by my tuner.

I think when people talk about the SPT intake losing power they refer to running the SPT intake without a tune. Then again, running any aftermakert short ram intake without a tune will cause you to lose power.

Then where do the definition of stage 1, stage 2 and so on exist? I thought this was just Cobb nomenclature but it seems to be prevalent across all turbo/supercharged cars.

Stage 1 is a stock car with a tune
Stage 2 is a car tuned with a downpipe

SPT short ram is a hot air intake and will always yield less power than a cold air intake. You are also going to lose power if you run the SPT without a tune.

Lots of reading..
