Default 08 STI screaming at me

Now that the new IWSTI layout/design has been implemented, I have been able to read some time threads in this forum.

The 2008 STI is more attractive to me than ever. If I get one, I narrowed down my choices between a WRB with gold rims or a white one with white BBS rims (obviously need to get this done by a powercoater or wheel painter). But the 08 STI has a challenger...the old RS 2 door coupe, GC8 body style. I would do an STI swap and install a widebody kit. Clearly, two different directions neither one of which has me more committed than the other.

Currently, I drive a 2006 Tribeca with leather, almost fully optioned out. Its the 7 seater version which was perfect for the amount of driving and amount of luggage I needed to carry a year ago, but its no longer needed and really overkill now. Under my lease, all oil changes are covered and there is no charge to return the vehicle at the end of the lease with bald tires and no brake pads. I put nothing down and I only pay $425 a month.

If I go the 08 STI route on either a lease or a financed purchase, I can expect to pay a lot more in monthly payments. If I go the RS route, I just need to come up with a couple grand and modify the car in stages spread out over time.

Anybody know someone that wants to take over a favorable lease that ends in a year?

What should I do? What path should I take? slightly-modified 08 STI or fully-built RS-STI route?

22b? I like the idea but wouldn't want one that I built as my daily driver.

White on white would look really good. I might have to follow in your footsteps with a dark bronze on my gray.

Go with the swap. There is a guy on I-Club with a sick-ass swap and imo, they are much better looks & weight wise. It *should* also be cheaper.

apples and coconuts

two completely different cars.
do you have any other car(s) as a backup, or is tis your dedicated commuter?

if you have other means of transportation, a project car like a sti swapped RS should be fun. OTOH, a lightly modified '08 should be fun too, without the little voice in the back of your head thinking "i hope that i make it in to work today"

either way, have fun with it!

Well, if I go the RS-STI route, I will keep the Tribeca and find something to lease in the same price range as the Tribeca when its lease expires.

If I go the STI route, I would keep that as a daily driver.

Yes, these are two different paths completely which is why I wanted to hear what others had to say.

Those are two interesting choices and there are pros and cons to each.

08 STI - pros

- brand new car
- great safety
- value if you sell it in the next 4-5 years
-utility of the hatch

cons

-heavier
-monthly payments, higher insurance premium, high registration fee

That's just a quick list. With the RS you could do whatever you wanted to it since you wouldn't care about the warranty but it would be a custom car you you'd lose whatever money you put into it if you ever decided to sell it. The cost to own the RS would be much lower.

You might try the following web site if you want someone to take over your lease.

LeaseTrader.com - Car Lease - Lease Assumption - Short Term Leases

There may be other sites as well. Supposed to be legit according to an article I read, but I have never tried it.

Talk about two different directions.... If you really have the time and garage space to spend on a 22b project then go for it, but for most people the 2008 is probably the way to go.

At the LA auto show they had a sweet 22b sitting right next to the 2008 STI. Something similar would be awesome.

Actually, if you do go the white and silver BBS route, I know dealers are willing to do the silver for gold swap. The local dealer here did one on a WRB and a Black STI. Black with Gold BBS, I'm surprised we haven't seen that on the board. Should be a VERY nice combo.

this is what i think~~

if you have the time to tinker with an older car and have the money to support the project and you have an alternate car you can drive while the project is getting worked on then i think the rs gc8 would be a really fun car to modify and play with. (what a long run on sentence...)

if you're too busy and just want to drive without worrying if your car will work tmorrow, then the 2008 sti for you. having own two used cars previous to the sti and having them both break on me on real rainy so cal days was not working out for me. rain shine or snow, i dont have to worry about anything when it comes to my 2008 sti!

He was talking about white on white though... Like getting the BBS stripped and powdercoated.

I'm torn between white and red at the moment, but am 95% sure I'm upgrading soon.
