Default A light is on my 2008 STi cluster, what does this light stand for. Please Help!!!!

Hey guys, i got an 08 STi and when i bought it, they gave me a forester manual, i didn't realize until a couple days later. Anyway, i don't have a 08 STi manual and a light came on in my cluster. I was wondering if you guys could tell what it is. It's a picture of a car like going up a hill and it has a slash through it. Please help. I really want to know because i cant find out.
Thanks

Traction control. There is a button on the lower dash near your left knee. Push the button, your traffic control will go back on and the light should go off.

It just means that the '08 models weren't designed to actually go up a hill. You will notice the next page that shows an '08 next to a grocery store and a woman in the driver's seat. You will also notice that it has a "thumbs up" next to it. lol

I know its not the traction control light because I know what that light is and how to put it on and off. Traction control light is a car with a like sqiggly line. Because i've turned it on and off. I don't know what this light is. Its a picture of a car going up a line (a hill) and has a slash through kind of like the no smoking sign. You know.

Flame bait notwithstanding ^^^^

The light you speak of is the hill assist feature. When you're stopped on a hill and want to take off, when you lift your left leg off the clutch, the brakes hold the car so that it does not roll back until you get on the gas. The brakes don't engage indefinitely but you should have plenty of time to get going. Pretty nice feature.

And what is it with missing STI manuals? Is there a gray market for these things? Is someone stockpiling them? There have been numerous people who did not receive the STI manual.

yeah, the light should not be staying on. maybe when you first turn on the car but it should not stay on. if it does stay on when you're on level ground, make a note to bring up to the dealer next time you go in, unless you feel the brakes gripping after you take your foot off.

Maybe he inadvertently figured a way to disable it? Or the sensor may be malfunctioning. You're probably fine to drive it as-is, but I'd take it to the dealer to have them check it out.

And FYI, the hill assist feature only engages if the incline is steep enough and you press firmly on the brake pedal. You can stop on an incline and the hill assist will not engage so long as you keep a light touch on the pedal.

Also, it only holds for about 1 second when you release the brake pedal, it will do so even if you don't hit the gas or clutch.

I believe if that light stays on, it means that you have somehow disabled the Hill Start Assist. I don't have a manual in front of me, but I'm sure if someone is able to grab a manual, they may be able to direct you as to how to turn the Hill Start Assist back on.

Not so much. It holds the brake after you let off the same amount you were holding it before you released it.
