Do you mean simulated pedal pressure?
I never said otherwise, I was only referring to when it does and does not engage. Holding the pedal just lightly enough to not move means the hill-assist doesn't engage. Push harder, it will. And no matter how hard you press the pedal, it will only hold for about 1 second.

Maybe the length of delay depends on the grade of incline, but I've only ever found it to last for 1 second.

What I mean is it has nothing to do with how firm you're holding the pedal, it will hold that same amount after you release it.

I still hate it. I didn't buy a damn STI to learn to drive stick in.

Heh. The Hill Holder(tm) was an old feature that Subaru had on the older cars. Really was a cool thing (how it worked and all). As far as the light, if it's on the manual says that it means something is wrong with the system. No details, just take it to the dealer. And the hill holder on the STi, well I'll admit it's taking some getting used to. I've almost bogged the engine a couple of times because of it. My '05 sure didn't have it. But you know, I'll get used to it. The new car is an awesome ride too. I love the whole SI Drive and VDC system. Once you understand how it works and how/when to use what mode, the thing rocks. You can save gas in "I" Granny mode or eat Shelby Mustangs in "Sport #", DCCD in "Auto -" with VDC in "Traction Only" mode. Hell yeah!

i wish i had that feature...theres some pretty nice inclines over here...not to mention drivers behind me love to be all up in my alley...so i've adapted to holding up the e-brake and letting go slowly as i take off

Hill Holder only will engage when you have the shifter in first gear, as I believe.
Also, its states in the manual that it engages for two seconds before disabling.

I HATE the hill holder. I have stalled the car so many times because of it. I have been driving stick for 10+ years, I don't need a hill holder!!!! I realyl wish I could disable it with a button or something.

^^ When I went to test drive the 08 I stalled the car a few times because of it! I did not care for it at all and if I were to purchase the 08 I would permanently disable it.

To the OP, after all its under warranty and if you cant fine the solution then take it to the stealership and all is well again

I cant agree more. I've stalled the car at least ten times. Until the 08 STi, I couldn't remeber the last time I stalled. My wife has had a good chuckle everytime it's happened. Damn Hill Holder!!!!

This is my guess as well...

PS - The owners manual can be downloaded from mysubaru.com... perhaps this tid bit should be a sticky, since there seem to be so many dealers not providing the correct manuals!?!

To OP -- if you can figure out how you killed the hill-holder (and made the light come on), I think you'll have a lot of friends...

I either end up stalling or or burning the clutch... I think the hill holder idea is okay if it's executed properly. The 08 STI hill holder sucks A$$! It's the worst when you are parked on a decline facing down hill. I can't get a feel for when the clutch engages.

$5 for the first one to figure out how to disable it permanently. Only way i've worked around it is blip the gas and engage the clutch normally. Shouldn't have to work around this feature on a performance car. The hill assist is be far the worst thing on the 08s.

I'm not having these issues? Perhaps yours is holding the brake too long by not disengaging when it should? Perhaps the dealer can adjust this feature? I'm not sure but I'm not experiencing these issues with mine. At first, I thought I don't need this but I've learned to like the feature.

I would agree. I have never had a vehicle with this feature before, but I have found it come in handy a few times since I have owned the new STI. I haven't found any troubles or issues with its engagement but it's interesting to see those who are not fond of this new feature.
