Default So what's the deal with bluetooth?

I just picked up my WR Blue BBS/Nav STI (absolutely thrilling) and I thought Subari had a bluetooth module for the car. But I asked the dealer and he wasn't sure. Moreover, I can't see to find any reference to the module on Subaru's website under accessories (pilot error probably).

Does anyone know the part number and/or availability?

I know its exists because the Nav book has a sticker on the back saying something about the availability of the bluetooth module (dealer thought it costs around 120 bucks + installation).

Its not out yet, suppose to be any week though. I got an email that I cant find atm from SOA stating it would be shipping in march to dealers.
I know I have seen it on subaru.com before, but your right its not there now... Who knows I hope they didnt cancel production.
Anyway, you can see it at the link below. I have ordered stuff from these guys before and they have it listed on their accessory page. I contacted them about availability back in January and they said it could be months but they have an email list and will notify when it becomes available.

I remember reading on a website way back that a bluetooth kit would be sold seperately and would be available soon after launch of the STI or something like that. Made me want it, and now that we have a part number for it, I´m contacting my Subie dealer

On a side note, I just called my dealer and they say that they can get both parts in 3-4 business days (the bluetooth kit is listed as available - I don't know if I should raise the BS flag).

Right now I'm trying to understand how much it will be to install it....getting a quote now....

If anyone has installation cost quotes, please post them! They already wanted about 50 dollars more at least in parts than what I get on the web.

For whatever reason SOA has been showing 1 available. I've called 3 dealerships in different weeks (1 online from WA, and 2 local) to have them check for me, all have said the same thing. "Yup SOA says 1 is in stock, we'll see if we can get that one" Only to get a call back a few hours later once SOA notifies them that its just there for a placeholder in their database or something.
Go here

click on the ask a question about this product and ask to be on their notify list. They have promised to stay on top of the availability from SOA and will let us know as soon as they are out.
My guess is the end of the month or early April.
As far as cost and difficulty to install... $165 and I'll do the install myself, just a simple wiring harness you run to the steering column, and then a CD that you put in the map slot to upgrade the software.
Here is the subaru tech doc for the 09 Forester, it looks much the same as what we'll need to do with ours.

Thanks man, way ahead of you (or with you!). I emailed SubaruWRXParts.com and they were very open and honest about the issues with this kit. They have been backordered since December and given no update with the kit will be available. They think either later this month or even now July! Man that would stink. I'm on their list.

As for install, jesus man you got take off the whole dash. I admit its not that bad but its such a pain in the arse! I'm still waiting for the service guy to get back to me (he may never call, service departments hate work like this - if its not an oil change or brakes, I'm used to getting a big hassle).

Not to be a hater (since I didn't spring for the Navi) but first they make you buy additional parts for bluetooth then they make so that the entire dash has to come out? I've had more than once car never be the same after the dash was taken out, I just hope our dash is made so that it goes in and stays in with no rattles. Sometimes I get the feeling manufacturers charge luxury prices without luxury service or planning. (Exhibit 1, releasing an iPod integration kit which is not compatible with the existing iPod since the iPod stays on after your turn off the headunit).

But then again, if it's coming down to complaining about the iPod and bluetooth, I guess the rest of the car must be OK

Yeah guess its just like the free ipod... just wait and hope. Although with the ipod I bet they are just waiting for prices of the 16gb's to drop again before they hand em out to us

I think that service pdf is a little overkill now that I look at it closer. I remember when I did my heated seat install being able to snake around the steering column pretty easy (lots of room under it). And then when I did my subwoofer install being able to reach all the way down behind the climate controls to get the speaker wires back under the seat. So I would bet one could get by with just pulling the radio out and the cover around the steering column.

Keep us posted if anybody hears more about the bluetooth
