Default Real world Gas Mileage

Hi All, I'm new to the board and am considering an '08 STI. I'm wondering how an unmodded new STI does in real world fuel consumption?

What are averages of highway, city or mixed driving?

What are best highway mileage results (at what speeds)?

(Sorry if this subject has already been beat to death..)
Thanks.

Highest MPG I've reached was 24 during break in when I was babying the car. Now I average about 21 with mixed driving.

That's about what I've experienced. Once I went stage 2 the averages went up a little, I get 23-25 in mixed city/highway driving, and 27-28 on a long highway cruise. I get a lot of variation, however, between summer and winter driving. Typically ~5 mpg less during the winter months. It's not the gas, because where I live we run "winter gas" year round. AFAIK it's just the denser, colder air and my desire to use it for going faster....

With oil prices going crazy on world markets, you might wonder what Europeans are driving where gasoline prices might hit $6, $7, or even $8 a gallon. How many gallons is the tank on '08 STI 13,14 ???

Finally got my 08 silver w/BBS yesterday morning After letting it warm up, I hit reset on the mpg calculator and actually got 25.5 mpg driving home from work! This is 16 miles mostly back roads with only a little highway and driving like a granny in intelligent mode.

My '08 is breaking in nicely and getting noticeably stronger while returning better MPG numbers. The gauge on the dash is surprisingly close, being a couple tenths lower than actual most times. The best I've seen so far was 22.5 last night on the highway. On my '07 I averaged 22 or so on the highway, so they're about the same.

The most I ever got was 31 mpg in I-5 rush-hour traffic from Bellingham to Tacoma (avg 60 mph). That was immediately after a reflash. When I was driving entirely on the highway, it was usually above 26 mpg, but now that I'm driving out in the county with a lot of turns and such, it's probably around 22-23 on the winter tires and around 18-19 with the summer tires. Just how much of that is burned for rev matching, I don't know, but I am still on the original rotors at 138,000.

So far I'm getting like 15-16mpg for the first few fill ups with mainly city and some highway. Guess I am enjoying it too much, but honestly, I don't know how some of you guys get the numbers you get. I realize you're grannying it but goodness. Any tips (other than lay off the gas)?

the gas mileage, im pretty sure, will be terrible when you first buy the car, and for the first 1k miles or so.... that was the case w/ my 07.... as soon as the motor is "broken in" after the recommend mileage in the manual, and you can start revving the engine higher and driving a little more spirited, the mileage should improve.... i had about 18mpg when i got the car, and it scared me cause my WRX was averaging 28mpg lol.... after driving the recommended break in miles, and then driving the car with a little more oomph. my mileage sits at about 21-22mpg now.... hope that helps.... it was on an 07 STi, but i cant imagine the 08 being terribly differnt

Same here (18.1 in 3250 miles).

Suprisingly, the dash mpg gauge is with-in 1-2 tenths of my calculations (miles traveled divided by gallons each fill-up).
