First off who cares about peak horsepower? Peak horsepower is cool for braggin but if your making it at 7k then its pretty useless.

And the STI surely doesn't "murder" the X in terms of torque, it actually embarrases the STI once boost kicks in.

Take a look here at these unbiased dyno runs done by Perrin. BOTH cars are stock.

Seriously though reliability? You have no idea what the X has in store, its completely new and redesigned hardly out long enough to judge it.

Talking about the old cars if thats what your talking about. I'd say both cars are even when taken care of. The STI has a bullet proof tranny, and the Evo's 4G63 is more reliable and worlds easier to work on.

That engine has been around for many years...something about an engine with stock internals handling 600awhp is saying a lot. Many people are running 30+PSI on the stock internals with and stock tranny with no problems because they aren't driving the piss out of it.
To complete the picture.... I believe STI is running about 18psi of boost. So I would say that the STI does have potential for more torque. The EVO X is running 25psi of boost. Pretty close to the limit of the stock turbo.

Safety ratings appear to be very comparable according to crash tests:

08 Subaru Impreza NHTSA Ratings
Passenger: 5 stars
Driver: 5 stars
Side Impact Front: 5 stars
Side Impact Rear: 4 stars
Rollover Rating: 4 stars

08 Mitsubishi Lancer NHTSA Ratings
Passenger: 4 stars
Driver: 5 stars
Side Impact Front: 5 stars
Side Impact Rear: 4 stars
Rollover Rating: 4 stars

The Evo adds knee airbags. Both cars have a lot of electronic gizmos to keep you on the road if things get crazy. I'd call it a draw in the safety category.

What you failed to mention was that the STI has an exhaust and tune where as the Evo is completely stock including exhaust, they just upped the boost. Limit without meth yes, with meth 28-29 easily, plus with an exhaust and actual tune, + supporting mods I think you'll find the X to have a better powerplant just like on the previous cars.

What would you consider Stage 2??

In my books Stage 2 usually if not always = Exhaust and Tune.

I am sure we will see easy 400 whp evo with 350 lb ft of torque to the wheels with a tune and boltons. Where we will see only 310whp and 400 lbft of torque to the wheels on our STI's. evo wins again in power, but not in the weight department. evo;s final drive is 4:90-1 and subaru is still 3:90-1.

Yeah the STI was stage 2, but not the X, the X was just boosting more on bone stock setup.
