Default 08 block and piston desighn change

I was just on subarus web site looking to get a paint formula when I saw this feb 28th update on the 08 STI. I could not read on because just a three day subscription was 75$. Anybody else heard of this?

What's New This was as far as I could get with it.

If you click on the (?) mark, they also say this:

Quote:
Cylinder Block and Piston Design Change

Service Bulletin #02-105-08
Pages: 2

Bulletin Description: The purpose of this bulletin is to inform that the cylinder block journal and piston skirt design has been changed. As a result, the ECM logic was also changed. This bulletin provides the new part numbers, countermeasure in production, interchangeability of parts and ECM reprogramming information.

Information contained in any technical document found on the STIS web site should only be used as reference material for highly trained automotive technicians. Only automotive technicians have the training and the special tools/equipment to repair Subaru vehicles.

is this a recent change for freshly built '08 models? or does it apply to all of them?

I have heard that one guy already pulled his pistons out and compaired them to others and said they are the same. This was on one of the first STI's to be tuned so one could say that they changed just recently.

That is interesting given the part number for the pistons hasn't changed... But they have reved parts without changing the number before.

Hi Jeff, Is it confirmed that the conrods aren't the same? You were saying the part number is different? Are they supposed to be stronger than before?

I had the opportunity to read the dealership product info on the 08 STI and it says the improvements in crank and piston and revisions to the cylinder head is only applicable to the JDM 2.0. There are no difference in the export 2.5L.

This note is for the 2008 Tribeca, not the STI.
