Default Rumour: BBS problems? Delays further '08 STI production (bbs-trim only?)

Edit:

It seems that link is old but I wonder why my dealership seemed to indicate that there was indeed an issue (as well as other people hearing the same thing from their dealerships.) Strange.

Original Post:

Someone on our local boards posted that their dealership told them future production on the '08 STIs (bbs-trim only?) has been halted/delayed due to BBS filing for bankruptcy:

BBS news (old):
BBS meldet Insolvenz an Wirtschaft + Handel bei auto motor und sport

At first I wasn't sure if this was true or not so I called my dealership to find out the status of my STI order. My contact said that since my car is a January production car, it is still scheduled to arrive on time at the end of March. He did confirm that production was halted/delayed on new STIs; I assume that is until Subaru figures out what is going on with BBS.

Has anyone heard anything else?

First they charge $2K for them and now they're halting production? WTF

Time to contact Enkei or Rays.

I heard BBS has been in trouble for a while. One of my friends over in the UK told me that. I guess it's time to find another company.

Since I can't read whatever language the original article was written in (I assume it's German). It's hard to determine what the status of BBS really is.

It's possible that this is going to be a very temporary, very short stoppage in production. It's also possible that it'll be a much longer stoppage at BBS (not necessarily Subaru).

I suspect the underlying causes are the run up in worldwide aluminum prices and possibly an inability to secure financing.

All 08's halted or just the ones with the BBS option? Halting all production would not be financially beneficial

Well, that's what I don't know. As I said, this info was posted by someone else from another forum and confirmed by my dealership.

Note, Canada only gets the full-trim model, so it might only affect us and BBS-trim orders and not the base-models in the US.

I dont think subaru would halt the base model just because of bbs.... Whats going to suck is people who need to get a replacement wheel are the ones who are going to be hurting. Subaru will find another (better) company to do the wheels.

I wonder how many cars were built with the BBS rims. If they go out of production, that should make our BBS cars pretty rare (at least the rims will be).

I'd be half tempted to put mine in storage to keep them safe - but I really love these rims so I haven't seen anything else that compares yet.

What did they file for. are they doing a chapter 11. Filing for bankruptcy doesnt mean they are going out of busniess. Just protecting there busniess and it should cary on like normal. IF they do a chap.11

I suspect the bankruptcy laws where BBS is domiciled (I assume Germany) aren't exactly the same as U.S. bankruptcy laws. So references to Chapters 7, 11 and 13 don't directly correlate.
