Default 2008 looks vs. prior years

This should be fun...

I just bought an 08. Red. It's my first STi, although I have been lusting after them long time. I have always been intrigued mainly by their performance. The looks of the old style, frankly, I thought was pretty bland and did not do the overall package justice.

I know the majority of STi owners have the old style. And I know there's a cult status around them. But, really now, from an objective standpoint, the 08 is a much better looking car. How anyone could argue otherwise is beyond me.

One man's opinion. Flame away.

bland? what makes you say that? i think in comparison the 04/05 looks the most aggressive... its got an almost angular look about it...

the 08, while in my opinion, does not look bad, it missed the mark... you apparently want people to argue with you, otherwise you wouldnt have posted this thread...

Trolling, It's not just for NASIOC any more. Seriously why are you posting a thread like this? Your 08 looks nice, there is no reason to try and compare apples to oranges.

The only thing you 08 STi guys got over us is the widebody fenders... Other than that the car looks like crap.

I actually agree with him. I could never quite pull the trigger on the old one; the looks were just too much of an afterthought - lets put an air intake here, a big ass wing there. I liked the aggressiveness of it but its just not a great lookin' design and getting dated, IMO (For pretty cars, think 350Z or Audi TT). BTW, you should also remember that Subaru was attempting to expand into a wider market with the new STI (30-40yr olds, I think), so keep that in mind when evaluating the new design.

I think Subaru did a nice job with the new STI. It has a very European look to it and I really like that. I bought a white STI with the gold BBS wheels and I gotta tell you, I never would have ordered that combo, but I just LOVE the gold rims. I find myself looking back at the car for a second glance and the styling is growing on me more and more. If you follow European designs for hot hatches, I think you'll find where Subaru got its design inspiration from.

But remember, the cool part about being human is that we all see things differently, so no need to flame. Just sharing an opinion here.

I too was never one that had the 'old style' jump out at me, but as far as performance, you couldn't beat it.
Too each his own.
I think the '08 STI is pretty good looking.
I love my '07 and was considering an '08, but the interior didn't do it for me.

Yup same here. The previous STI was to boyracerish for me with a huge wing in the rear, the interior was cheap. The only thing I like about the car was the performance nothing else.

I love the new 08 STI and I will be in the market for one pretty soon.

I think the 08 STI looks great for a hatch. I'm personally not a fan of hatches, but I can understnad why many people would like them. To each his/her own! If I had to buy a hatch, then I'd probably seriously consider the 08 since its got a nice interior, wide body, nice wheels (5 spokes or BBS) and slick looking front hood scoop.

HOwever, my only complaints are that the new 08 has quad exhaust pipes (excessive) and clear taillights. That's about it really.

So the 08 is a good looking hatch.

The 04-07 are good looking sedans.

the problem with the '08 is not just its looks and the fact that it is fat and soft. the performance of the new evo x is leaving it is the dust.

I have an IS250 now I was going to get a 350 but I got an amazing deal on my IS250 and I couldn't justify paying $9k more just for 100hp on the same exact car. I thought I can live with an auto but I cant. I love the looks of the IS thats why I got it. Gorgeous interior too. But its not very particle, small interior room, no folding rear seat, and kind of boring to drive.

The new STI for me is an all out performer, lots of space. I can go snowboarding in it, camping, etc, etc and its fast with a true manual unlike the IS350.

It's magic. New owners of '08 STI's think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Owners of 04-07 STI's think exactly the same thing about their respective model year. Nobody can just enjoy what they have without trash talking the other models to make them feel better about their purchase decision. Let it go.

Speaking of red wagons -- I saw a red MS3 last night on my way home from work, and it's not a half bad looking car. The only bad thing about it was the owner had installed an absurd looking angled muffler. I still can't figure out why people like those. I'm looking forward to seeing a new STI in red, so far I've only seen DGM and WRB

for the record, there's a difference between trash talking and reciting facts. if someone doesn't want to hear the possible range of responses, the obvious strategy is not to ask the question.

"...but doctor, i want a second opinion."
"ok...youre ugly, too."
