Default 08 STi intake silencer delete? How?

I plan to get a APS CAI in later when it is available for 08 STi. For the time being,I 'd like to hear some "sound effect"with some mod to the stock intake.

I found this thread about the pre-07 sti stock silencer delete.

How To: Stock Intake Silencer Delete (pics)

Anyone know how to remove the 08 STi stock intake silencer? Has anyone done it yet?

Seeing as the 08 STi and the current generation Legacy intakes have more similarities than the 07 STi and this 08 STi, I'd check this thread: Intake Silencer Removal. - Subaru Legacy Forums

I could be way off with this thread but its worth a shot.

Just an FYI, removing the intake isnt too difficult in either model, its deciding what you want to do with the gaping hole in the box that usually ends up being tricky. If you remove the the silencer, youre essentially removing the usefulness of the "ram" that feeds the intake. A trip to home depot for a PVC cap and you should be good to go. Some people leave it open, some people do tape, etc so on and so forth.

I plan on logging ECU data before and after doing this, but I still dont even have 600 miles and Im the break it in like they tell you to.

I've thought about taking mine out but haven't looked into it much yet.
Same here. Thanks for the link, I'll take a peek later on.

I'm wondering the same thing... is it just to make the car louder? Does it have any negative effect on the intake?

Why? It adds to the audible character of the car, mostly by making it easier to hear the turbo.

Side effects? Debateable but probably not. A few may say youre taking cold air away from the intake and sucking it up through the fender instead but I haven't really seen any data to prove that theory (not to say it isnt the case). Even fewer will say that it will change the way the air enters the MAF sensor causing a bad read from the sensor. I seriously doubt thats the case though.

I already did the silencer delete

It is really very easy to do.
It's very similar like the legacy.

I did it in 40 minutes.

I forgot my cam so sorry i can't post pics, but it is really easy.

The sound is nice now, little bit more "Grrrrr" and you can hear the turbo better in higher revs.

I also replaced the W5W lights below the turnsignal-lights with Philips Bluevision lamps! This i will recommend everybody!!
The white light is much nicer in combination with the Xenons.
You need to remove the airbox and the battery to replace the lights.
When you disconnect the battery( 1st the negative and then the positive) when youre going to connect the battery again (1st positive then negative) you can have error codes on the dash
SI-drive,cruise control,VCD and engine problem was lite on my dash.
After you start a few times the engine they are gone and everything is working fine

Tommorow i go to the dealer to read the trouble codes to be sure that everything is OK.

1. You need to close the hole to the silencer on the bottom off the airbox, i did it with strong tape on both sides.

2. I'm almost sure that it won't change the airflow !!!
You can see it when you have the airbox off.The intake flows directly into the filter ,so it's really only a silencer if you ask me!!!
