I moved your post from the "STI Paint Chipping Thread" as that is not a discussion thread. I'm not sure anyone has received an update from Subaru yet. Also, while the problem definitely exists, only 3 people have posted to that thread so far, so it's possibly not a widespread or well-known issue yet.

If you are getting a new STI, I would highly recommend a little bit of 3M (or similar) clear film at the rear buldge and a set of Rally Armor mudflaps once they are available.

it is more then 3 people with this paint problem. i have an 08 wrb sti and it's starting on mine with around 500 miles. i only have about a dozen chips on the rear doors, but being aware of this problem early on i'm not really driving the car... waiting to see if subaru comes out with a fix and waiting for the rally armor mud flaps until then. "not really a fan of mud flaps, but if it will help protect my paint i guess i gotta do it." the thing im mad at is that i had 2 previous STI's and drove the hell out of them both, in gravel and all weather conditions and they were both pretty much damn near mint when i traded them in. and they didn't need mud flaps.
I think the reason that not many people are posting in the other thread is that it requires pics of the chips and i'm not letting mine get to the point of lookin sand blasted to get a good pic. but i must say that there definitly is an issue with the design of the new STI that is leading to the chipping.

I might take some pics soon, starting to get some damage on mine. Pisses me off because I keep her waxed.

Agreed on the pic issue - I'm not letting mine get bad enough to take a pic. I showed the pitting to my dealer (at only 600 miles on DGM), filled them with touchup paint, sanded them smooth (2000 grit) and polished the doors. Then I put on a large piece of Xpel.

There is no way wax is going to help anyone - even the Xpel is showing damage. I need the RA flaps ASAP.

the thing is wax doesn't protect against chips, wax only keeps dirt from sticking to the paint, and protecting the paint from chemicals and UV.

The problem is, without pictures and a record, Subaru isn't going to take it seriously. Let's face it, if you went to the dealership and said, "I have a paint problem and want it fixed, but you can't look at the affected area, just trust me", they'll just laugh at you.

Even pits or roughness is enough to show on a picture and you'd both be doing fellow STI owners a favour by helping to catalogue this problem.

I really wonder what Subaru's fix is going to be though? We all wanted wide fender flares and, just like older Porsches, this is a problem when you have wide wheels and front fenders that tuck in.

It's tough..as soon as you see them, you want to deal with them. I had three chips on the seam between the rear door and the car, passenger side. Nothing on the driver's side. I filled them right away. Going for more clear bra next week.

Chuck, our service mgr., spoke with SOA and they said they would email you. You can come in and pick out splash guards

I have removed the restriction for requiring a photo. For owners experiencing this problem, please catalogue it in the STI Paint Chipping thread (remember it isn't a discussion thread.)

Very true. And another favour (or, as we down south say, good deed) that would help everyone, including prospective buyers such as I, would be publication of where to put ClearBra or another such product. Pictures, patterns, any specific help would be greatly appreciated. (The pictures in the other, stickied, thread help, but more information would as well.) HPH
