Default Silver 2008 STI on lot

Hi all. Sat in a 2008 STI base model this morning at my local dealer in Western PA. It was dealer ordered to sell off the lot. I did not test drive even though they offered. I just wanted to sit in and get a feel for the interior. I have test driven the new WRX so I was not sure I could tell the diff in driving feel on a spin around the block with the STI. I'm not one to beat on test drives. Car had 14 miles on it. Just came in yesterday. No buyers or interest from anyone yet. I was told all local area cars are filling pre orders, so no dealer search/trades would be able to be done. If I wanted to order, it is an 8 week wait. The orders are filled the first 5 days of the month and then roll over to the first five days of the following month all with 8 week leadtime. I was told no restrictions or hard to find combos were known other than the obvious gold wheel/color restrictions. Also, I was told 3.9 financing on 63 months. Car was stickered at 36,XXX as a base model. Since sales are very depressed in this region, I was also told that dealing will be done on this car with significant savings. They would get no others in until this one sold. There is a person comming in tonight to order a DGM with BBS/fog, suppossedly. It was nice to see a hatch release button on the remote and a separate panic button on the back. The door panels had chalky marks on them that rubbed off, but looked like they would frequently hold those marks from every day use. Stereo was pretty lame sound wise. Hmmmn. I may have to trade in my 2006 wrx. Oh and I got a STI specific brochure. They said they hide them from the kids and only give them or offer them to "qualified buyers." I guess I'm qualified.

That is a pretty good interest rate and sounds like they will give you close to invoice.

Yesterday I was at my local Subaru dealership for an oil filter they had an 08 STI on the showroom floor. It was also silver with the non-BBS wheels. The inside was very nice, seats weren't that bad, the trunk is small.

Overall, it didn't give me the same feeling as my 06 STI did when I first saw it. It's a mean hatchback for sure, loving the widebody. I'm going to wait for the 09/10 model.

$36K is way too much for a base model. They should be selling for low $34K. I don't know of anyone that is really buying these for MSRP. Definitely keep working on getting a better price.

Went in today for an oil change on my 2006 TR. Saleperson walked over and told me he could do $33,999 for the base sti on lot. It had compass mirror and armrest. All with 3.9% for 63 months. Very tempting since I have 45,000 miles on my TR and I'm ready for a new car.

I thought the sound system was decent, especially compared to my 06 WRX.

Interesting it had 14 miles on it...that's what mine had on it as well when it arrived in south east PA.

That is a pretty good rate too, especially since he's throwing it around without doing any credit checking. I qualified for 4.9% at the dealer which is lower than my credit union would give me.

well they said it was the subaru rate on all impreza's including STI. I own two subaru's both bought from this dealer and salesperson, so he is aware I'm qualified.

That sounds almost too good to be true. Are they only offering this deal to cars on the lot or can you order one from them with this aggressive pricing and interest rate?

Sounds too good to be true. Thats a low % + high months. Not to mention that car is a few thousand $$ below sticker.

Too bad the non-BBS wheels look like crap.

I'm still holding out for a few years to see what Subaru can do. Sounds like the salesman was throwing some stuff out there to bait you in.

I've had more people comment that they liked my wheels in the 6 days I've owned my STI than in the previous two years that I had my WRX with Enkeis on it.

Well I have bought two subies from them in the past three years so they know I buy. Plus my credit score is well known to them based on the purchases. i get all service done for both cars at the dealer, including having them do tire rack purchases mounting and balancing so I am a good repeat customer. Since I do high miles on my wrx an oil change is about every 1.5 months. They also do state inspections for me. I guess what I'm saying is the rate and price are valid.

My problem is based on all I have read on the 08 WRX and STI I think I may have a "good" year 2006 wrx TR edition in San Remo Red and may just play with it for a while. After test drives and magazine reviews, along with this site and clubwrx, me thinks I'll sit on the side lines til 09. (holds breath for improvements)

TreeRex,

You didn't answer my question, will they work that same price magic on a car you order? Do you have to buy one off of the lot?

I live in New England but would travel down there if the price is right...
