Question Import STI?

Basically to make a long story short, I dont really like any of the colors offered for the sti. I have always driven silver and want something different, I hate all the other colors except wrb but dont want the attention.

Can I go to canada and bring back a midnight blue sti? I will be moving back to upstate new york and canada is not far.

Unfortuately the midnight blue is the perfect color for me but I am going to assume that it would be very difficult or impossible to import it.

I realize that it would cost about 10 grand more so Im not actually going to do this but wondered if it was even possible.

Thanks!

If I remember correctly, SOA nixed that plan for the Canadians to come here, because of the currency exchange rates, so I don't see why it would be any different for U.S. buyers going to Canada aside from being pointless. 10 grand more for a specific paint color?... Definitely not worth it (as much as I love the MBP color myself)! For that price you could get the thing repainted with practically any style of paint and any effect you'd want and it could be your own distinguishing ride... Hope that helps!

It is VERY VERY dificult to get a car from Canada here. Just because of the crash test standards are different. Also the emissions laws are different. I tried to see if I could bring a skyline from canada since they can bring them over easier then us. I was told to have a friend that lived there register it and just drive it in the U.S. It would be much easier that way.

^^ now that is illegal but actually that might would work. Even if I would do that, I would never pay 10 grand more for it.

Actually us Canadians can still import the US spec cars. Unfortunately you guys don't have the heated features (seats, mirrors, wipers) that I would really appreciate up here... Yes, warranties still work as well. You get it fixed at a local dealership, pay for it yourself, then get SOA to reimburse you.

Hopefully I'll have a MBP by summer, just waiting till it gets warmer so I can break in the engine in reasonable temperatures... -20C is a little cold for a new engine... Last week is was -38C for two days . As a surprise to everyone my BMW 850i started first try!

Why not spend a little and import one from Europe?

You´ll get the BBS wheels, fogs and navigation, just like in the US version... but you´ll also get the Push Start, Keyless entry and most importantly.. The Recaros.

Also, Midnight Blue is available here
