Default Perrin What a Disappointment!!!

I called Perrin today to order their AP Stage 1 and started to ask a few questions. I got some girl on the phone that didn’t know ANYTHING!!! Every time I asked any questions she said “I’m not sure let me see”. She didn’t know if it was only their maps on the AP or if it had the Cobb maps as well. I asked what the difference between the Cobb and Perrin Maps were and all I got in return was “ours makes more power”. Then I asked about their DP vs the Cobb DP and she had no idea about that either, she didn’t even know that it was in two separate pieces!!! I asked if the front section of the DP had a cat and she told me NO, I said I am looking at it online and it looks like it does, then I got the old “hold on and I’ll see” then sure enough oh, sorry I was wrong it does. Then I found out they don’t even have a stage 2 map if I did buy the DP. Needless to say I went to the Cobb site and placed my order for the AP and the DP. Not too impressed with Perrin!

i think i would have asked to speak with someone who was more knowledgeable than the girl you were speaking with. maybe she was just filling in? regardless, an experience like that would have lost my sale as well.

In all fairness, how often do receptionist level reps know a product inside and out? Did you ask for sales, or did you start firing questions off at the first person who answered the phone? Finally, are you asking questions about products which have hardly been available for a few weeks (08 STI AccessPort Maps)...

This isn't to say a person answering the phone shouldn't have stopped you in the beginning if they weren't qualified to answer technical questions. Sounds like a poor experience, but I wouldn't cut Perrin out altogether. Perhaps an email or follow-up call are in order?

Best of luck!

Not enough = zero! : P

Given the OP already ordered his AP and DP, figured if it was worth a post here, his concerns are worth a quick email to Perrin informing them of his poor pre-sales experience.

I never under stood why they put those kind of people as receptionist. I guess the guys that actually know what their talking about, are working on the cars.

why are people so fickle?
obviously not everyone knows as much as you do ... although the fact that you are asking stupid questions that you can answer yourself (looking at a picture and asking about the picture when you already know the answer.... duh) questions that theory...

No question is a stupid question when asking a company about their products. Their only lossing busniess when they have a receptionist like that on the phone. Not the way a high profile company should be run IMO.

Sorry you've had bad experience with Perrin. In my personal experience, Perrin has always been prompt to answer when I had technical questions. I usually ask questions via e-mail, and I'd usually have a response within the next 5 minutes.

...and no, I'm not on Perrin's payroll. Just trying to defend a company who puts out quality products, and IMO, has great customer service.

I bought a COBB AP from Perrin and recently received it last Monday for my Stock 08 STi. Perrin forgot to send me their promotional free mapping so I emailed them and got one 24 hours later by e-mail. During that time I noticed that the COBB Stage 1 stock 93 octane setup boosts 17.8psi which I am now running (94 Oct.) and very happy. When I got Perrins Stage 1 93 Oct. mapping it had a description of 16psi boost from the AP manager.
When I have time I might flash it but I am not sure how going from 17.8 to 16psi is going to make me happier unless the COBB is hurting my engine but I don't hear any knock at all and our 94 octane is holding up quite well. In all fairness I have not e-mailed Perrin with this question since I have no intention of loading their Mapping now.

Petro? I didn't know they made 94. Are you out west or east? I'm so glad we have Sunoco 94 in Ontario. Those poor bastards in California...
