I was going to take my ipod touch to Radio Shack and show the clerk the apple link and say, "I want your $10 model."

Be careful -- for the newest iPod models (Touch and Classic) most generic cables don't work for video out (audio works fine, though). Cheap cable/dock makers typically didn't license the interface specs from Apple, but reverse-engineered it so they didn't have to pay the licensing fee, and the Touch and Classic (and iPhone, I hear) do video-out differently than the older models, so many/most generic cables and docks can't do video-out on the new models. The only way to be sure vid-out works on the new iPod models is to go with the Apple-made cables and docks. Sucks, but that's the way it is. I learned the hard way when my Onkyo iPod dock wouldn't do video-out with my Classic iPod, and I beat my head against the wall trying to figure it out, and it turned out Onkyo didn't license the interface specs from Apple. I have to wonder whether the vendor who makes the iPod interface used in the Subaru is a licensed or a "generic" -- I'd suspect the latter, but since I'm only using it for audio, it doesn't make much difference to me.

Thus the Apple composite AV cable for Iphone in my case...

Exactly, another reason for me to get the NAV.. which has standard AV inputs...

You cant "Control" the Iphone from the NAV screen... but HELLO:

(Iphone = REMOTE)

Why reach there when you can have your AV cable run nicely under the cup holder... With a nice Cup mount...
Cup Mount for iPod, iPod Mini - Mount and Dock
iPod Car Cradle 3g 4g 5g Video 6g Classic Touch iPhone - eBay (item 360008535380 end time Jan-01-08 21:07:40 PST)

IM giving away my plans here...

Aux jack and IPOD controller are two different cables.

New IPOD's dont have full functioning with the IPOD controller cable Subaru supplies. Essentially, it just doesnt turn the thing off when you shut your car off. This is a moot point though as no aftermarket cable completely controls the new IPOD fully, NAV or not. $3800 for a factory NAV is no good. To each and their own money though.

As for the aux jack, anything should work for that.

My 30GB Ipod Video shuts on/off just fine with the Subaru IPod connector. Just confirming. Have yet to connect my wife's newer 80GB classic.
