IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | What rpm should I set my shift light at? Just off the showroom floor 2008 STI. I searched around for a dyno sheet on a bone stock car. I found a few from the big names with the power output number, but never at the specific rpm. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2008 Trader Rating: (2) | It's been eternally debated, but I set mine the highest it can go (6700)...and I have made sure since the car had 11 miles that I redline and zing through the gears at least once everytime I drive it. It's a modern engine, rings need to be set, etc. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2006 Trader Rating: (1) | Thats debatable.... mostly depends on what the rings are made from, some take 1k miles and some dont. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2008 Trader Rating: (2) | You know something Subbie does not know since they instruct to stay under 4K (while varying rpms in that range) for the 1st 1K miles? I've been taking it easy and would like an excuse to meet Mr. Redline, but not at the expense of hurting the engine since this is going to be a keeper. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2008 Trader Rating: (2) | Again, this thread should not turn into an age old debate. Every manufacturer advises a proper brake in period when the car is new, there are reasons for this. I am with the side that always treats and engine like it's intended to be used - I don't think you should remain at redline for extended periods of time like on a track, but for me at least I make sure to give the engine a variety of loads, speeds, and modulate through the gears. I mean...Harman has their project car with 600 or so miles? And believe that thing has been redlined on the dyno with high loads plenty of times. Sure a shop like them intends to one day build the motor and warranties are not of concern...but remember they did win the tuner shoot out with their street class stock engine'd Sti. Again, endless debate the original answer was I set mine to 6700. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | I have to agree with Kaz. When I break in bikes or cars, I always drive like I would drive it. My vehicles whenever they have been on the dyno always make good problem free power. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
