Default Dont have to wait till 09...

Everyone has been talking about the STI and how its become a "softer" version to the previous, i remembered hearing that the sti spy shots on the web had noticed 2 different sized brakes on the mules. I apologize if this is a repost, i couldn't find any info on this.

See attached pics.

To me, the blue test mule looks to have larger rotors. Perhaps, and only perhaps there is a 08 STI typeR, so to speak (you know what i mean, Civic Si is vs a Civic typeR, of 430 vs 430 Scuderia) Maybe there will come out a more finely tuned version with larger brakes, more hp, less weight and better aimed at the enthusiast?

What if this came out mid 08...Just a thought. Maybe its nothing...i just find it odd...it also gives me something to dream about

As cool as it would be I would just hate to see the sticker price on it if they did. It would easily be $45k. One of the main things that drew me to the STi was how affordable it was at the time (2004). Money may not be an issue for some but I know for me there is no way I could afford 45k let alone 40k and if I could afford it I would be looking somewhere else. Still I wouldn't mind seeing a variation similar to the spec C, etc., even if I can't afford it .

there are a few different special editions of the STi just none available in the U.S.

Let me guess, JDM? Those lucky buggers! I'm betting if we had the 2.0L 8gk redline, forged piston beast they have, they STI vs Evo tests would be ending up more in our favor.

Well, I am in the process of changing my Yaris TS for a STi, although this is a question thats hunting me as well. Im sure there will be other more powerful models, less weight, like you mention, there is the peter Solberg eedition, the Spec C, the Spec C Type RA, etc. The question is the time frame!!! I am willing to wait, the Ts is new anyways, but is it worth it? This is an interesting point! Here in the UK we used to get all the JDM models and also the STi Type UK. But this time, we have gotten the 2.5 Liter Boxer Turbo as well, so Im not sure anymore, but do not doubt it, there are many models to come (variations) of the STi, and for sure, they will be a better Beast!!!!!!

Dont wait!... from what we knew so far... we arent getting those special jdm editions... subaru had no intension of making them available in USDM in 04-08... why would they change their mind?...

don't expect any special model releases here in the US with any powerupgrade /engine modification ... it hasn't happened yet with any other Japanese model cars ...

It sounds as though GPVG27 may be in the UK, in which case he may very well see some special editions. Subaru UK is much better about that sort of thing than SOA is.

Not neccessarily, they could upgrade the performance and take out all the luxuries like A/C, power windows, etc......to try to keep the price low. Ex. Evo RS

you can consider the 2.5L motor a special upgrade. Big fan of torque.

I saw 2 08 STIs last night here in the Northern VA area(these didn't look like they were sold either so if you want one I can tell you the dealerships). Both were non-BBS packaged and no Nav.. a silver and a the dark gray color(sweet color and one I would get if I do ever get one in the future). Let me start by saying that I have to agree with what most people have been saying about seeing this car in person. You have to see it in person to really appreciate it and there are somethings that definitely me attract me more to it. The main 2 things that I like are the larger interior and certain things bout the look of the car like the side panels from a daily driver perspective. As from a performance view I like the fact that you can go more aggressive with tire/wheel diameters without having to worry bout rubbing issues. I also like the new exhaust and the tail that integrates directly with the top rear of the roof of the car. The main thing I don't like is the front of the vehicle. I so like the look of the 06 and 07s headlight set up but I guess you can't have it all lol... I plan to visit both of these dealers and go for a test drive. After seeing both of these cars and then seeing mine I still love my 07 because it has so many of the things that made me like this car from the beginning. I plan to keep my 07 for a while and still plan on some future mods but I am gonna be patient and wait for 09 to even consider the new STI. Whether Subaru brings out a special edition or changes somethings for 09 I rather wait also see how the new STI adapts to modding. I will probably look for a used 08 or 09 late in 09 if I get one. The Dark gray with gold BBS package is the one I would go for.

I don't see why SOA wouldn't make another Special edition like they did with the MY07 Limited. Which BTW are impossible to find and where and were all spoken for only months after they came out. I think that should be reason enough for SOA to consider putting a "special" MY08 STI model in to the mix....... and those calipers on the blue test mule are 6 pots for sure bro those things are F-ing huge. I just hope that if they decide to make a special edition STI here its going to be a more like the Spec-C and not like the USDM Limiteds because the new STI is grown up enough as is trust me.

I'm going to be really pissed off if I buy an 08 and they come out with a special edition in the U.S. with better brakes etc.

Wow... how much brakes does one need? I think the 08 brakes are awesome and so do most people that have driven the 08s.

If you enjoy the occasional trackday the STI setup is more than you'll need. There is always brake pads and rotors if you ever need more stopping power.

I can see later editions maybe the last year of the body shape come out with a sunroof, bodykit and different wheels. Don't expect to see any "real" limited editions like Japan.
