Default Bluetooth and IPOD on 08 NAV head unit

Like the title says, just bought an 08 loaded (the only way they come in Canada). The touch screen head unit looks like the Kenwood DDX 7019 from my last car which had bluetooth and IPOD capabilities. Does anyone know what the Subaru head unit uses for bluetooth and IPOD access.

My plan, is to run the Apple Composite AV Cable from the armrest storage where the AV inputs are, under the Drink holder with a small hole feeding the Iphone connector up to the cupholder style iphone mount!

This way, I can play videos and MP3s from Iphone, while driving, while it charges!

Here is the cable>>> The Apple Store (U.S.) - Apple Composite AV Cable

Just add a USB car charger and you got an Iphone STI!\

Ill post pics when I finally get my 08!

Youll have to figure out how to get the NAV unit to play the vid while in motion (ie bypass the two safety features of the NAV).

As for bluetooth, it comes with the NAV (unless what I read was wrong). IPOD will have to be done as per what DJ said.

So, even the AV inputs are disabled during drive...???

I figured the internal DVD would disable... but how could the computer tell what I was sending Mpg3 or Mpg4 using the AV in...?

Can anyone confirm>?

I believe Bluetooth comes with the Navigation headunit, but a microphone is not included. Either the dealer has to install one (supposedly for $200+) or you have to install an aftermarket one.

Yeah, there's a helluva difference between Bluetooth and "Bluetooth ready". Why not just install the microphone from the factory considering people have already paid $2k for the navigation upgrade. It's Carnival cruises charging passengers an extra fee to play shufflepuck.

BTW does anyone know how to bypass the video safety feature?? It's more for the wife who likes to watch music videos while I'm driving... put in a concert DVD it was more distracting for me switching between DVD video and Nav.

Sorry I didnt explain better, the video aspect (as you guessed) will be disabled when on the move. If its anything like my Infinitis, youll have to ground a wire going into the back, and then separate another one.

Can anyone with an 08 verify that the AV inputs video is disabled, along with the internal DVD when on the move...?

If so... Im sure its bypassable

Yeah its disabled while moving, but my wallet is the perfect thickness to set under the ebrake, the light comes on but no brake is applied (better than pulling it to the first click), and this enables all the features of the navi. AV input, POI searching and address entry.
Not sure if there are any other side effects of doing it this way, I have only done it a few times. If anybody knows of any ramifications do tell... Only thing I could imagine would eventually a burnt out dash brake light :-P

Anybody heard any more info about the Bluetooth kit for the factory nav? I took delivery on Tue and no mic on mine. I also hear there is a cd that comes with it, has update software for the navi interface. I've called a few online parts/accessory dealers and everyone says its back ordered.

I had the dealer promise me a microphone as a condition of the buy. I told them I won't stand for that "ready" crap. They caved as I was walking out the door and they realised that was the only thing stopping them from selling a 28.5K car. apparently there was one available in clevland and they ordered it in for me. but I have my doubts that that one is real so I think I will be waiting for Subaru to release the wire with everyone else. Its beoynd me why they are waiting unless its that the firmware that is not yet ready.

So far as the work around for the saftey switch, I beilieve that grounding the brake wire will work but that would most likely void the warranty don't you think??

I agree, there is a Kenwood Model # on the back page of the NAV manual that came with my car. I'm going to my Kenwood dealer today to see if they can get me a compatible Bluetooth mic.
