Default Re: Bluetooth and IPOD on 08 NAV head unit

I bought the BlueTooth Mic, Subwoofer, Rear Cargo Mat and Rear View Mirror with HomeLink. I have not gotten any of them yet. As you can see from my former post, I already updated my Navi...

I wanted to see if the Phone Options would display.... but they do not. I guess the Mic has to be installed first. I am guessing that jumping two pins in the back will enable it, but I am chicken to try it.

I will post my experience in installing all the items. I plan to build a platform that will sit on my steering wheel hub that will hold the mic and one turbo boost guage and the Valentine One Remote Display.

or

I may modify my new rear view mirror to contain the V1 remote display and the mic.

or

There is enough space next to the clock (if modified) to install the V1 Remote and Mic.

Not sure yet. I will await the parts first.

It's all listed in this thread and others. Just page back through them.

Here are the tech docs from subaru:
http://techinfo.subaru.com/html/down...?doc_id=219708
http://techinfo.subaru.com/html/down...?doc_id=190304

Bluetooth mic you dont need to disassemble the dash, with the navi out you can snake the cable through the openings and to the steering column.

Same with the subwoofer cable, I was able to do the whole thing with just dropping the harness down through the Navi opening, and catching it near the gas pedal, then I tucked it up and ran it along the side of the center console just under the carpet, its totally hidden and much easier than the instructions state. You still have loosen the drivers seat bolts to fit the mounting plate in, but that isnt very hard.

Just take your time and you wont have any problems.

Wirelessly connect your Bluetooth-compatible cell phone with your Impreza using menu choices displayed on the navigation screen. Allows you to make and receive calls, store phonebook information, and recognize different driver's phones. Requires Navigation Package.

Ugggh, just installed both with a friend (who happens to be avery experienced technician).

I agree the bluetooth install is pretty simple. I wouldn't remove the lower instrumental panel as I was able to stack it through the steering column hole next to the center console.

However, the subwoofer install is a b!tch. The hole to fit the connector through the center dash under the shift boot/center is a royal pain. The hole for the actual wire under the rug was another pain in the arse.

Subwoofer was definitely worth IMO. I'm not saying its the best you can get but I think Subaru should include this STANDARD on the next STI. Without it you have close to zero bass.

Bluetooth works like a charm though I don't understand how I can upload my address book in my iPhone to it. Can you? If not, I have a lot of numbers to put in. I placed my mic as suggested, center of the steering column.

Also, grounded the woofer and the gray wire so now I can watch pr0n while driving....wicked cool....

Man, interior work so sucks compared to engine/performance stuff.

From my research you can't. The iPhone isn't capable of initiating a bluetooth contacts transfer. You need a device that pulls the information from the iPhone. My Parrot kit in my other car does and works great. Not a big deal for me though since I only have a handfull of people I call and you can always initiate a call via the iPhone.

True. I was just curious about the feature. All-in-all the bluetooth accessory to me is a MUST HAVE and very simple to install (plus if you get both the sub and bluetooth you can do them at the same time).

i suppose each tweet and woofer count for 2 - so there are 2 sets in the front and 2 sets in the back making eight-add a center (the nav has the option for this but dont ask me what it means-there isnt even a wire for a center channel on the back of the headunit) as well as a sub-that's 2 more makes 10.

It looks like each speaker is a 2-way speaker. Therefore 2x4=8 and the seperate tweeters equals 2. (2x4)+2=10 BEDMAS the math teachers call it.

thanks

has anyone noticed that the AV input settings can set to either aux or video? What does that mean and how can one get an auxilliary video input?

Aux is the input in the center console. Video is DVD video.

I just received my subwoofer, MIC and mirror. I installed the mirror in 5 minutes. The mic in about 30 minutes... however, the sub...

The instructions that came with the sub are not for the 2008 STI and make removal of the armrest and center console difficult. How did you remove the arm rest? Did you yank the carpet from inside the armrest and find two screws?
