Well, I installed my bluetooth kit today. I really feel abused on the price of this thing, I bought my Parrot integrated kit for less than this, oh well.

Anyway, the installation is pretty easy. Take extra care removing the nav system. An extra person would help, it was a chore getting the plugs undone without scraping the metal tabs that hold the unit in on the dash. I managed to do it, but came close a few times. I was able to route the microphone wire without having to remove any other parts of the dash, it was a tight fit but doable. Be very careful where you anchor that wire because it's easy to get it caught in the tilt/telescope mechanism.

No CD was included or required. Upon startup the Nav system detected the microphone and went through a one time setup. After that the menu options were all enabled.

It seems to work pretty in my driveway, the real test will be driving at speed on the freeway.

My iphone had no problems connecting and handling phone calls. However I cannot figure out how to transfer my address book to it. With my Parrot system it did it all automatically. This seems to need you to initiate the transfer from the phone which the iphone doesn't seem to do. I'll do some searching and see if I can find a solution. Stay tuned on that one.

If you have any questions let me know.

Oh yeah, I read this somewhere else so can't take credit, but the very easiest way to remove the stereo surround is to tilt the nav system as if ejecting a CD and then grab the surround from the inside and gently pop it loose. Zero chance of marking the dash surrounding the piece.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the post. So, no CD, just a microphone?? What does the connector look like? If no other parts (maybe bad assumption), the presence of a microphone will cause the NAV to boot with the bluetooth? Thanks for any infos. My kit i on order, but I'll cancel ($199) if there's and alternate way of doing this.

I got 15% off so it didn't hurt quite so bad.

Anyway, the connector is proprietary. I took a picture of what was in the box and I got a somewhat decent picture of the connector. It might be enough for someone to guess the pinout and try a generic microphone.

My FTP site is on the fritz right now or else I would post a picture.

Looking at the connector from the end the wires enter with the locking tab up the pinout is: Orange, black, black, orange, white. The two orange wires and the white wires go to the microphone and the black wires go to an unused connector. I would guess the two orange wires are for the microphone and teh white wire is the shielding for the microphone but don't quote me on that.

Which harness did you use ?

Mine doesn't seem to be controllable from the nav

Yes, once you enable the Subwoofer within the sound system setup you're able to control the gain. I set the manual controls on the Sub to max gain and very low cutoff.

There is also the ability to enable a center speaker... I enabled this and the system became even fuller... Not sure what that is all about, but my wife noticed it as well.

With the Nav out I noticed a "Clarion" sticker stuck to the bottom of what I thought was the indash clock/mpg... I thought Clarion just made stereo's and speakers. If that is the case it might stand to reason that what I believed was the clock/mpg is actual a center speaker. I don't know so I guess this is more of a question.

Only one of the two Sub harnesses will connect to the Nav unit. To control the Sub gain through the Nav you have to make sure you're in the right menu.

First make sure the Sub is enabled within the Nav unit. I believe it is under "Settings" then "Setup". It'll show a picture of 6 speakers and give you the option to turn on a center speaker and a subwoofer. Turn on both or just the Sub.

Second, go back into "Settings" then into "Balance/Fader" and you'll be given the option in the lower right hand corner to control the gain of your Subwoofer. Set the Sub to the level of your choice (I put mine at 10)

Third, set the manual "Gain" on the Sub itself to Max, and set the "Cutoff" to near Min.

Fourth, under the equalizer I set it to "Pop" and the first set of adjustable figures... I set the bass to 60hz with a max of 9.

With my setting set to the aforementioned I feel the bass and it really does fill in the blank of the stock system. For those who can't feel it... Either they don't have it set correctly or they are wanting earth shaking bass which this sub wont provide... You can feel it though.

UturnSTi, can you please verify that changes you make to the settings on the nav unit (sub gain, sub on/off) actually change the sound? I know exactly which menus you are describing, I have messed with them over and over.

I totally agree that my sub is working, and the screws on the sub itself do affect its volume and high-cut. But the Navi controls don't have any effect (as ssm04 is indicating). If yours is somehow working differently I'm gonna have a field day with the dealer!

For my Nav unit they do... I verified this by having my wife sitting the passenger seat and taking the Nav gain to -10 and then to +10... We both noticed the difference. The system without the sub has absolutely no bass at all... Adding the sub one can now hear the difference as well as feel the difference.

Back to bluetooth discussion.

According to the SOA rep I just talked to there should have been an update CD included with the bluetooth kit. They are working with my dealership to get it to me right now. I'll update this thread when I get it.

Update: I just confirmed that a bulletin has been posted as of this morning stating that a CD is needed. If you already have the bluetooth kit and no CD then call SOA or your dealership and reference part number SPN0000621.

back to the subwoofer-since it has its own gain control, it must have its own output on the back of the headunit , no? if it comes off the rear speakers, how then could you adjust the balance and gain of the rear speakers without affecting the sub? does anyone know where to obtain the harness for the sub?

Just installed the bluetooth mic, easy job, less than 15 minutes. Only had to remove the Navi.
The Navi comes out very easy, just turn the car to ACC, hit the eject button so the screen folds, turn the key off, gently grab a hold of the bezel and pull evenly. It just pops right out, 4 screws and then gently slide it out.
Then I snaked the mic down to the floor, was able to then tuck it up into the steering column. I used the tilt/telescope out all the way to get my hand down and could just reach the mic. The tape that came with the set sucks, the cable tiedowns that look like tiny breath-right strips didnt even stick to the dash, so I just used electrical tape for now.
Was very easy and it is absolutely criminal for these dealerships to be charging $100+ for install!

My kit did not come with the update CD but a guy on NASIOC made an ISO and will upload it to me. I'll scan and verify it to be correct and safe so if anybody wants it send me a PM and I can give you a link to download.

I have the file. Got it from the guy on NASIOC. I'm going to scan it and test it tonight. If it works I'll post back here but I need to minimize traffic on my web host so if it works I'll be asking that people PM me for the download address. If someone else wants to make it public after that, go for it

I scanned and tested the ISO and it works perfectly.
Burned with nero, insert into the MAP dvd slot, and it does the rest. After it finishes it will display an error saying disc not a map disc. At that point just eject it, put in your map disc and then go to check the version info in the Menu. Should read 6300.
Anybody else that wants it just PM, I can NOT make this link public, I have it monitored and will remove it if it gets shared too much.

Awsome, thanks for testing it out. Sounds like you are in the same boat with hosting as me. If you get too much traffic let me know and we can share the load.
