The 6000 unit is bluetooth capable but does not have the ipod capabilities of the 7000 series (which sucks because 7000 series have full on screen ipod playlist etc)

He *believes* that a Kenwood bluetooth kit/mic will work. We are going to test this on Tuesday when the head unit is out for an amp/speaker install.

Kenwood - KCA-BT100

More to follow next week
How did the BT mic test go? Did it work???

I'm wondering as well. Apparently though this month the SOA bluetooth module/option is supposedly out.

I will get it as soon as it comes out. The picture of this product has been on the Accesories Fold out since the release of the STI. Also, the STI Kenwood Manual has instructions on how to setup and use the phone capabilities.

I found the best way to take off the trim panel is to open the navigation like you were putting in/taking out a CD and pulling from the sides of trip bezel so you dont have to do any prying whatsoever. pull from the top portion first then the bottom.

Nope, it was a no-go. Not compatible, have to wait for the Subaru part (of course).

Wait, what? Really? I have this exact problem right now in my STI and the service guy wants me to bring it in and have it examined. If this is the case then that is piss-poor integration by Subaru. Why have sub-controlling functionality on the nav unit (AND refer to it in the nav manual), and then connect the factory sub in a different manner?

Does anyone else have info on this?

Thanks.

I know you were quoting me but heres something else to think about...

Same reason there is a center channel setting in the Navi sound options... Try turning the center channel on and then playing a DVD movie, you'll hear ambient sounds but no voice, go into the settings and turn off the center channel and you can hear the voices again... Thats because there's no center channel.

Subaru didnt design the navi interface, Kenwood did along with whomever writes the equalizer software. Its written once and adapted to many different applications/vehicles...

I would also like to hear other opinions on this though.

My approach is gonna be like this. I'm taking it to the dealer Tuesday morning for them to look at this issue. If (when) they come back telling me it's wired into the speaker outs, I'm immediately gonna ask why the Nav system has the capability for a direct sub connection (as evidenced by the menu options) and yet the sub is installed in this inferior way.

I doubt I'll get anywhere, but hey, it's worth a try. Who knows, maybe they can rewire it to use what I assume is either a preamp sub out or a proprietary sub connecter on the back of the Nav unit. Again, if the unit did not have such a connection on the back, it would also not have menu choices for independently adjusting the sub.

Makes sense in my little world anyway.

Ask about the center channel too

On a side note I've ordered both the sub and bluetooth (asked both will ship when bluetooth arrives). I've been quoted 200 bucks for the installation of both by my dealer.

200 seems like an awful lot for install, everything is just plug and play. I would instead ask them what their hourly rate is. If it takes over an hour the techs were just screwing around.

My STI didnt come with the Sirius module from the factory, so I ordered that and the dealership said install would take over an hour and cost $50. I installed it in 10 minutes in their parking lot. Walked back in and told them it worked great and grabbed another cookie and water out of the customer lounge.

How difficult was the Sirius install? Can you say more as to what it entailed? I need to do the same thing...

Any time you have to take out the dash to install the microphone, they are going to charge you more than an hour worth of work. MOREOVER, most dealers don't do interior work like audio/bluetooth etc., they hire an outside contractor.
