Question 2008 STI Bugs?

Hello all. Thanks for all the feedback on my pre-order disaster!

Instead of kicking a dead horse, I figured Id ask you guys opinions abut something that troubles me some...

When I bought my LGT in 05, it was the first of a totally re-done platform.
I love my LGt; however, there were alot of issues with the 2005's... (Bugs)
from CELs, to thermostat issues, to ECU and injectors needing replacement...
the 06, and 07 models were a great improvement, and offered extras
(Nav at the time). Cant say it was enough that i wish I would have waited, but then came THE SPEC B!

So, my question is..

How much of this will we see in 08 with the new STI platform?

Or..

Considering the new STI is on a revised Legacy platform, will most "bugs have been worked out with the LGT?

Im hoping for the latter!!

No way to really tell yet, but Subarus have become one of the most reliable brands over the years.

My main concern with a car is its engine. This engine isn't some new deal for the company, and one guy on this site has already taken the new engine apart. Find and read his posts. I wouldn't be that concerned with it myself. It's under warranty anyways.

Im not suggesting that they will be un-reliable...

I NEVER buy first year models. You get two huge negatives when doing that. You pay full or close to MSRP and plus you are a "guinea pig" to work out first year bugs. No thank you.

I have a car to drive so I will get a 2009 STI.

When I got my 2007 Lexus IS250 I really wanted it in 2005 when they were coming out. People were paying MSRP and really close to it for the IS250. I waited patiently and got almost $6000 off MSRP plus I got an 2007 with a few known minor bugs worked out. I got double the deal.

I'd agree somewhat, but Subaru has a good (great?) track record with these cars. The 02, 04 and 06 models have been reliable as any. I have an 06 WRX and have had zero issues at all. I'm confident the 08 will be a solid car. And for once I'm going to keep it stock for a while, so I'll even have a warranty! What a feeling!!

The 07's came with one gigantic C0ckroach of a problem. One that SOA decided to shove under the rug.

EDIT: apparently ****roach is a bad word.

I think the 07s were a trial-run of some of the changes for the 08s.

I believe Subaru is one of the brands for which Consumer Reports feels comfortable recommending new models without any history. A distinction shared by Honda, Scion, and up until recently, Toyota. That speaks well for Subaru. Toyota, on the other hand, apparently has slipped a bit and needs to refocus on quality or risk losing their reputation.

AVCS has been on the STIs since 04. However, I believe it was just on the intake cam. For 08 it is now on both cams.

I was a bit torn between waiting for MY09 or buying an MY08. The only really new thing on this car is the rear suspension and even that is somewhat a derivative of the Legacy setup, which seems to be working well. The engine, tranny, brakes, etc, are all tried and true so I doubt there will be any real problems. The quad exhaust looks like it might pose a small challenge for an aftermarket exhaust options, but the potential is still there.

The fact that this car has so many pluses going for it, I think I'll survive any minor issues that come with the first model year of a new car. The only reason to wait for an MY09, in my opinion, is that we might see Recaros, the push-start button, and other minor improvements (maybe a small power increase.) I can't wait for Subaru of Canada to announce pricing for the new STI. I wish they would get on with it...
