Question 08 STI BBS Upgrade question?

For those of you that upgraded to the BBS wheels, the question of the day is who gets the standard 18's 5 spoke? Since you upgrade should you get the standard option 18's and tires from the dealer? Are the BBS wheels a dealer upgrade? I would think you should get the stock wheels so you can sell them on your own. Anybody else think this?

I see your reasoning, but they come from the factory like that. I wish they gave you the standard wheels so you can sell them. But this is not the case here.

If you want the BBS wheels your best bet is to get them through ebay when owners start selling them.

Everyone griping about the $40,000 price tag is going as far as they can options wise to justify why the 08 sucks. I myself wont bother with either the $2000 wheels or the $1800 nav system. If I want that crap down the road, I will have saved myself the almost $4k and can get them at my discretion and still have my OEM parts.

With that said, no you wont be able to have your cake and eat it too

I agree that for $2000 you should at the very least get to keep the base wheels (and even then I think it's a rip off).

Given that the factory nav appears to be just a double din headunit instead of something more custom, and the wheels are so overpriced, I can't see spending the $$$ for the full meal deal.

Can't agree more - don't spend for the bbs rims. Use the 2000 for aftermarket rims that are lighter in weight. And a double din nav unit for the extra cash? Hell no - give me a z1 or z2 to slap in there and save me the trouble.

Back to the original poster - if they gave you both sets of rims then that would be sweet - summer and winter packages haha. But alas they do not give you both. Don't waste the money, go base and upgrade using aftermarket

Wise advice. I'd pay $1k for them, nothing more. They should be on the car to begin with.

Some people just like to spend money. There are no shortage of people who've bought completely unnecessary bling^H^H^H^Hig brake kits for 04-07 STI's.

GO read HarmanMotive's 08 STi.
he said that the brakes were shot after 1 run at B-Willow.

I believe his first upgrades were the brake system.
and he quoted himself that it made a huge difference.

*oh and to clarify - it was just the rotors, pads & lines.. not the calipers..

Stock brake systems are not generally recommended for track use. The fluid boiling temp and pad compound usually being the weak links.
With the brembos on this vehicle, you clearly wouldn't need to upgrade anything but pads/fluid for general HPDE use. 2-piece rotors would be a nice upgrade after one has worn out the stockers to decrease weight and potentially help with cooling.

The only thing I'd upgrade would be the brake pads (DS2500) and fluid (Motul RBF600).
