Well, buzz with us tuners aside... demand remains to be seen.

I personally dont see many people here in Miami beach driving Sti, because at the price point most south floridians will opt for the BMW or the Benz, or any one of a whole list of cars the exuberate status and luxury/
Maby where you guys are it snows, so everyone wants a Scubi...

The kids who WOULD buy the STI, cant afford to drive an STI! So, how big of a demographic does that leave?

It is a flat out stupid move to stall a potential buyer, with such a small Niche Market to sell to. What if that buyer decides to go get a G37 or Infiniti FX?
Ill tell you what, they loose a sale/

That $1500 more from last year really prices everyone out of the market!

Sorry but you're either way out of touch or just being silly. NO ONE is paying MSRP, let alone paying over. If you can't find one for invoice or a bit over, you aren't trying hard enough.

Yes, demand seems to be high out here, maybe since it is snow country. Having a BMW here means it sits in the garage much of the winter (or it spins its wheels on the icy streets) if it's not an xi model.

That leaves the rest of us older guys who can drop $40K on a play car without really feeling it. That has been the topic of discussion on numerous threads and messageboards. The new car is appealing more to slightly older people with families, who want a utilitarian hatchback to tote their kids to practice, yet still want something fast and fun. It is making the younger "tuner" crowd bristle since the car is less "raw" and no longer has the street racer styling of the previous several years. The new car seems to attract an older crowd.

I think Subaru wants to broaden their market from a small niche to a slightly larger niche. The dealership you mentioned could've done a better job with you though, since you were hot to buy. I'm not sure why they didn't follow up better. I guess only that salesman knows.

Try living in the bay area, ppl here must be buying them at ~MSRP (or even over if you believe their pitch), coz the dealers aint selling to me.
i've been 100% clear i dont want to go over Inv+500, and that i have cash ready when they want to sell one for that #. so far, nada, so i wait...

I was going off of this and other threads: http://www.iwsti.com/forums/2008-sti...price-sti.html

Regardless, if you can wait for 6-9 months I bet you could save a lot of money. Even the OP of this thread offered $800 OVER invoice. I bet in half a year the car will sell regularly for under invoice.

For many of the new buyers this car appears to be attracting, $40K is not a huge amount so if they want the car before anybody else they can pony up. What's a thousand dollars in the big scheme of things?

^___________maybe not any cities in the southern states, but anywhere that has an actual winter, the car is premium.

Because being at the dealership shows a level of commitment to the purchase. If you're just giving out a credit card over the phone, it's very impersonal, non-committal, and only takes a phone call to back out of a deal/freeze the money that the dealership would otherwise hold you responsible for committing to purchase their car. Not saying that your time isn't worth anything, just saying have your ducks in a row when going to the dealership, so it doesn't take as long.

What if Subaru is run solely by Servco, that sells at MSRP(no haggle policy) no matter what? Guess I have to ship the car in from another state? I posted elsewhere, but at what point does the dealer know the VIN# of the car they ordered?

You are correct about SOA .I swear if it wasn't for john migan [hope i spelled correct] of SOA[ sales executive @ cherry hill N.J. h.q]. i wouldve tossed in the flag in day 3 of my 2 month 15 + hour a day search for the 07 i wanted.
It just so happened that the 1 dealer who was the best of any dealer i communicated with either by phone or e mail was the 1 that pulled every string in the book to get me the product for the price i prepared to pay.
I visited 2 days ago to say hi and she told the person on phone she would call back, she had her calls on hold & dropped everything to give me a hug[no she's not straight but i am lol] and ask me how is it going? etc... The cool part is she never used one sales tactic on me nor did she patronize me or blow me off when i at several points in time stopped talking to her[during 2 mo hunt] for several days at different intervals & she owns the sti forester and shes the fleet manager as her sister is the sales manager.
Not one other dealer came close in customer service .
MR. migan of soa told me not to get down and keep hitting the dealers with my exact demands as it was very possible [nothing sure] that i could ''hit gold'' if you will.
60 some days later I got the last new 07 obp sti w/ reg wrx spoiler with silver bbs in the united states on dec 1st 07.I had an agreement to $300 below invoice and an end around the the ca. sales tax [legal].I actually cried in elation as i was driving it home. YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU WANT! dont let the train stop in the persuit of the worlds only portable roller coaster.

The thing is, In my case... (If you read my long story...lol)
I am a REPEAT buyer already driving a 05 LGT, I get it serviced regularly with the dealership, when I spoke to the sales girl I gave her all my info to get her worksheet started for the sale... They know I am serious! that is not the issue...
They are stalling in hopes to get around my offer, and get me to pay more. Its pretty plain

I did read your entire post and understand that you're a repeat customer. If you read my entire post (#58), you'll see that just a little patience will get you what you want, for as much as you're ready to pay.

Just because you've made your mind up to purchase a $35K doesn't give you the right to act like you own the place and act like a prick. (You do come off like they owe you the world).

Believe it or not, being cordial and patient will get you farther, especially when you are working with the service industry.
