Default 08 Incline Start Assisst Feature??

Has anyone figured this out yet?
I read the book, tried what it said.
No dash light and the only thing I can detect is it will hold you there for about 1.5 seconds on a hill without the brake on and then BANG the brake lets go and you roll backwards. Weird? Or not working???

I thought that's what it's supposed to do - just apply the brakes long enough for your right foot to vacate the brake pedal and sort out the gas. I guess it's kinda weird it let's go then but 1.5 seconds would be all the time you need.

i have an 08 STi also, and i have to say that im not a big fan of this hill start assist, mostly because it feels like im not even driving a stick. And when the assist lets go right as your letting off the clutch to go forward it is very jerky. As soon as someone figures out how to bypass this feature without the check engine light coming on ill be the first person in line to get it done.

Subaru had a much better version on my 2004 Forester, called the hill holder clutch. It would hold you there indefinetly, and then as you release the clutch you just go forward, no jerky action whatsoever. I am bummed about it too. It was quite seamless on my 04 Forester.

Has anyone seen the indicator on the Instrument cluster come on yet?? Other than strartup.

Does this Hill Start mechanism thing activate only on an incline?

For example, on a straight incline, you press in the clutch, your friend trys to push the car forward. Will the car go forward??

I'm not sure how the hill climber assist works, but I thought that you could get the dealer to disable this feature. I haven't inquired about it yet as my preorder won't arrive for another 2 or so weeks, but hopefully it can be disabled. Does anyone have any experience with getting the dealer to disable it?

My 06 has Hill Start Assist...It's that large lever next to the shifter! Pull up to engage, let it down to disengage.

From reading the manual: the hill start assist engages when you are on an incline (up or down) and have the clutch and the brake pressed at the same time. The manual says that it will disengage when the clutch is released, so I'm surprised that it seems to be working on a timer for you.

After getting used to it being there, I like it.

God, my roommate's early 90's legacy has this on it and I HATE it. The thing is so damn annoying... like someone else said, just use the damn ebrake if your worried about it.

hill holder < e-brake
what happens in an emergency - say if the guy in front of you starts rolling back
you can't just let off the brake to roll back yourself because of the 1.5 sec delay
throwing it in reverse will confuse the people behind you also
sounds like a bad idea to me
but i guess i need to know how it works exactly
