"People need to learn not to buy a car the first year it comes out and not to be in a rush when buying a car if you want the best deal.

>*And I'm almost certain with the US economy, dollar dropping, fuel prices rising, etc. And if the STI doesn't sell well at first there will be incentives for it."*<

So...Sooooo Very True! ^^^ Time is on our side- Plus the next one 09 might have some more SERIOUS improvements. I enjoy my 07 very much...and I will wait for one (09) to really knock my socks off..Hopefully. If I didn't have an STi at present I would still wait, at least till Spring to buy the 08...considering what is going on now with the economy.

Nice extensive writeup man. You should get 5 post points instead of one for something that long and well written.

Thanks. I had some free time and I was sick of the dearth of real world reviews on this and other user forums so I decided to throw in my $0.02. I was hoping to provide a fair review of the car driven on real streets. Glad I could help out. I cant wait for a second test drive!

Bah!! That wasn't nearly as informative as the cool people who have to inject a joke about a Ford Focus in every '08 thread...

I agree, nice writeup.

I paid a few hundred dollars over invoice. Even if I could have gotten it below invoice a year from now, how much time is that money worth? To my knowledge Subaru has never offered incentives on the STI. What kind of deal will you be waiting for?

As for next year being an improvement...I'm sure that's true. But you need to pull the trigger some time,a nd there will always be a better one coming out next year.

Just trying to justify my purchase

Mine is on order and I got it for invoice. Dealers are out there that will do it, you just have to put in the time to find them.

I'm sure they will sell for invoice if not even under.

I went to Irvine Subaru yesterday and they have like 5-6 08 STI's on the lot. Doesnt seem like they are selling that well, to me at least. Today not that many people want to spend $38k on a new car, maybe a luxury car but not a subaru.

When I bought my Lexus IS250 you couldnt even find a Lexus IS350 on the lot of ANY dealership in So Cal. This is why I got the IS250 instead of the 350 because I did not want to special order. Even today its hard to to come by a Lexus IS350 on a dealers lot.

So seeing that the STI's are sitting on the dealers lot I think it can be had for under invoice if you give it some time, especially since the MSRP is high on this car. I know for sure I wouldnt pay $38k for this car. Under invoice I would.

I agree with chmura, people are making way too big a deal about the $3k increase in price. If you take the time and shop around you can still get a decent deal

I don't think that's a good conclusion, since according to this poster, they had 15 of them about a week ago:

selling like hotcakes

That's at least one per day. BTW, that is about three times as many as any other dealer got. I'm guessing they must have submitted some bogus orders to get some of those, and I hear that gets you in hot water with SOA really fast.

Keep in mind its right after Xmas where most of us spend a lot of $$$. Plus the cold weather makes Jan a notoriously slow car month.

Anyway thanks for the review. Looks like Subaru addressed the 2 biggest complaints about the STi for me. The ride and NVH levels.

Nothing like having another Mazda on the road. There is nothing unique about the car, so go buy a Mazda and save some money.

Yuck...
