Default My weekend drive with the 08 STI

This is to test photo posting, which I haven't done before. The car here is sitting in my home town--located to the east side of the Oregon coastal range.

After leaving town, I drove out to the coast along hwy 47 to Pacific city. This is a pretty fun drive, and I started noticing differences between the 08 and the 05 that I used to have. Obviously the 08 is a lot more civil. It is genuinely relaxing when not being pushed, and it is still a blast to drive fast!

One of the biggest differences in feel is in the on-center feel of the steering wheel. It takes more effort to turn the car than in the 05, and the feedback is a litte better as the limit is approached. This is hard to describe because of how much less the car communicates in general; there is much, much less road noise and vibration, etc.

My 05 had COBB sways front and rear, Prodrive springs, Group N tops, and a Perrin DP with PDX tune. I am still breaking in the new car, but I think it is already faster than the 05. Not in terms of acceleration, but in term of getting from point A to point B. The limits of this car are more approachable than ever.

While I loved the 05, this car fixes all the things I had to complain about.

My one complaint with the 08 so far is MPG. ***** footing it around has gotten me about 18mpg. I know you will all say that you don't buy these cars for good MPG, but this is my daily driver and I was getting over 20 with moderately aggressive driving in the 05. I am hoping that this will get better as it breaks in and after the s--ty winter gas is no more.

Here she is at the coast:

After leaving the coast, I took some secondary roads back home over the coastal range.

I didn't expect to run into the 10 inches of snow that I did...who says summer tires don't work in the snow? I had to drive my new STI over 5 or 6 small fallen trees that hadn't been cleared, and at a few points I was pushing snow with the from bumper. It was FUN, and the car did great.

One interested thing was with the traction control. I got stuck once and the TC would not let me get the car moving. I stalled it trying even with quite a few revs before engaging the clutch. The computer just wouldn't allow the wheels to spin. After turning the TC off, the car spun up the wheels and drove right out. Pretty cool.

Here are some pics:

What do you think of the seats? And have you found out where all the 10 speakers are at?
