I feel like that picture of your car on the beach really shows what subaru was going for with the new sti. I only wish that level of aggressiveness was present from every angle of the car. Yes I've seen it in person.

You're a bastard!!!!! I couldn't keep up with you in your old 05, now how am I supposed to keep up with your 08?!?!?!?!

I'm not saying this will happen anytime soon, but I think the old saying, "If you can't beat em, join them..." Maybe an 09 is in my future.....

Awesome pics! Where is this?
I wasnt quite an '08 hater before, more of a skeptic, but i gotta admit the car looks great, i am totally sold. If nothing changes significantly, thats my choice for a next ride in '09.

Update on the MPG:

I'm half way through my current tank so far. The indicated MPG was optimistic by 1 last tank so I'm taking that into account.

My first tank was driven very, very conservatively and yielded 18.5 mpg.

My second tank was driven pretty normally. I wasn't trying to baby it. I went WOT a few times to pass but mostly took it easy. I am going to stick to the break in procedure for the most part. This tank got me 19.1 mpg.

In the tank I'm on, I took one WOT run from 0-100 (shifting at 5500) and then drove normally--not aggressive or conservative. So far I am getting almost 22 mpg on this tank, or 21 after adjusting for the computer error.

I am guessing that it will get a little bit better. I'm at 588 miles right now. Whatever it gets to, it is good enough to make me happy as is. I'm going to stop paying so much attention to it. If you guys are still interested, I will keep posting if it changes any more.

I continue to be impressed by the car's suspension and the balance between performance and comfort. So far I'm not really tempted to mod it. I did stop by PDX tuning the other day to talk to them about going to stage 2. After the break in is over I am going to drive it without restraints for a few weeks before deciding. I take it back...I am tempted. From what PDX says, it sounds like the car will respond well to tuning and I still remember the day I went stage 2 with a PDX map in my 05.

We'll see.

Thanks for all the info and picts! Sure does look good.

I, too, am keeping an eye out for real-world MPG values. What SI-Drive mode have you been using?

I thought I heard "Intelligent" mode could return an extra 10% fuel economy (on the Legacy).

I've been using I or S for the most part. S# feels great and the car boosts up much faster, but I'm doing my best to break it in still. It is painful.

I know there are different opinions about how to break in cars, but I followed the factory recommendations in my 05, and it was noticeably faster than my friends 06 that he broke in with the "rape it" method. This stayed true, stock, stg 1 and stg 2. He even added meth, and I was still just as fast with just my downpipe and PDX stg 2 tune (OTS).

There could have been many other factors involved, but I'll stick with what worked for me the first time around.

Great, and thanks. Yes keep posting your results! If you average 21-22 then that means, to me at least, that a proper tune could result in better fuel economy.

They're just summer tires, not RE070's. And even with RE070's, there were people who took them out in the snow. When they're brand spanking new you can get away with much more than after they're half gone.
