At 40k they can keep the car! Subaru is going to price themselves out of the market at that price

You guys need to relax, it's all just rumors at this point. Since when does everyone take what a dealer "heard" to be gospel? Besides, even if what he said is true, he said that's with leather, sunroof, and nav. I doubt that suff will be standard, if you want it, it'll be extra and maybe add up to 40k. Without that stuff it would probably be 4-5k less. And who pays sticker anyway? As far as the 335 goes, a stripped rwd model is around 44k, to get one comparably equiped, with AWD, nav, sunroof, etc, it would easily be into the low if not mid 50's. So the STi is still a deal.

For 40K I would look at the G37, 135ix, or used M3. Not an STi. Subaru is really doing some crazy stuff lately. They make a ugly looking hatch and expect to get 40K for it. What are they thinking? For 40K there are better cars out there.

Damn straight. I'll gladly pay $40K. That would make it $11K cheaper than a 335i up here and a real steal. I think it will be more like $45K-46K up here, which would still be cheaper.

You watch. When people start buying these cars and modding them and they turn out to be amazing (like most Subarus), I predict a hell of a lot of people will change their tune.

For 40K, you can consider a lot of cars . YOu can almost consider a brand new 08 Corvette (base with 430hp). You can certainly grab a 1 year old Corvette with low miles.

Umm..also G37, IS350 (if you're into that sort of thing), Lotus Elise for mid 40Ks, used M3s, 135 for sure, used 335...

i think may fully loaded it could be close to 40k.
but i still think the base price will be 32k, as it is now.
i think the options they offer, which are luxury based, hike it up.

i know for me, i could care less about nav...i would like it but if it hikes the price up then no. and a sunroof? ew, more weight.

It's not fair to compare a brand new car to a used one. I could pickup a two year old STi for $22K, which is a lot cheaper than a 135! Must be a great deal then!

I priced out a C6 Vette last year in western Canada...how does $87,xxx grab ya? The Z06 was north of $115K, the Porsche Turbo was just shy of $240K...so I bought a Lotus Exige S. The US dollar isn't as strong as it was a couple years ago.

if they sell it for 40k there going to lose alot of customers because you can get a way better car for that price.

They are reading this and what is sad is that our opinions(car enthusiasts) mean nothing to them. All they care about is $$$$. I understand it is a business but leave that to the regular cars. The Sti is a driver's car and should be basically designed by what they gather from places such as Iwsti, not common trends in the marketplace or crap from europe. The fact that they are offering us a five-door for 38-40k is lame. I realize the price is speculation but based on the price of a wrx its about right. Make me eat my words and give us a coupe for '09. Most people here will agree that the 22b is pure sex why not follow that trend? ....end rant
