What Are these wheels - They kind of look like the new Tenzos - I've been looking for the Black with red pin stripe

Default My proposal to Subaru (a 3-door super-STI)

I have no problem with Subaru going to the hatchback style for '08. The hatchback cars have dominated in the WRC for the past few years.

But I would like to see them remove a couple doors like in this Photochop...

Not only do I think it looks better, but it could be made to be lighter and more rigid with this layout. I doubt they'll be doing this anytime soon though. The STI is still a limited production model, and for Subaru to adopt a 3-door hatchback layout would require a good bit of re-engineering.

But perhaps they could take a new approach and make the 3-door model a super-STI with Recaro seats, 400 hp, and weighing in at 3,100 pounds. Starting at $41K. That sounds like it might be doable.

Again this may not be likely, but who would buy something like this if it existed? Let's give Subaru a reason to make it happen.

Who merged this 5 seconds after I made the post? I just got through adding a poll, which of course didn't work.

Sorry, but this topic already exists, so I merged the posts. I can create a poll for this thread and post your photoshop in the first post...let me know what the options were.

The question was:
Would you buy a 3-door, 400hp super-STI for $41K?

Options were:
- Heck yes!
- No thanks, it's too pricey.
- No thanks, I'm just not interested.

It's similar and yet different from this thread. It's more market research-oriented for Subaru. That's why I started a new thread. But this will work too. Thanks.

By the way, it's not my photochop. I found it at jalopnik.com:
Fakes: What About a Subaru WRX STI Two-Door?

Done. While I think it is a little unrealistic, what the heck, it is fun.
I even cast the first vote.

Cool... thanks again.

Yeah, it may be a bit unrealistic. The 400hp figure might be a bit ambitious for them as well. They probably won't feel as comfortable backing the car with their warranty when it's pushing that much power out of the 2.5L. But I proposed the $41K price tag based on what I thought would be doable for Subaru.

Here are the highlights of what I'd like to see:
- 3-door hatchback
- Recaro seats
- 350 to 400 hp
- 3,100 pounds

If they could do all that and sell it for $41K I think they'd have yet another winner.

It's more the fact of having a 3-door car and a 5-door. Subaru isn't really big enough to support that. Most of the WRC hatchbacks are all 3-doors though, so it's not completely unrealistic. For me, I prefer 5-doors because I have a dog and, maybe sometime next year a baby. A 3-door sucks for that stuff.

The 400bhp isn't likely to happen either. I'd love to have a 400hp car stock but I think that is too much of a warranty risk for Subaru. I would rather see Spec-C like appointments; a lighter roof, door/front fender panels, lightweight seats, more aggressive suspension tuning, and 20-30 more horsepower in the top end. Now that would be my dream STI. It's amazing what you can do with 330hp when you've got a light car with incredible handling.

Agreed. I started rethinking the whole 400hp figure after I posted it. That probably would be too much for them to warranty.

And I strongly agree with the lightweight approach. To have a car that's a couple hundred pounds lighter and only has 30 hp more would indeed make quite a difference.

having been an '05 STi owner, I would have been first in line for a 2 door hatchback of this caliber.

Much like I wish Audi would bring over the S3 here to the states.

I guess we can keep dreaming
