If it's a photographic illusion, then it faked out the camera . Put both of those in photoshop and cut out everything but the tails, then put them side by side. The white car has dark tinted lenses in the picture.

Isn't the official press kit due out in a few days? We should have much better pictures then. Although I'm guessing still JDM-specific? I wonder at what point we will know the USDM-specific details. (or perhaps ala 2004 we'll find out the details once they start showing up on lots...)

That´s not what I was saying. When you take pictures of shiny objects like a silver bowl for example, on a bright background, they tend to be darker than they are. Take a picture of the same object on a darker background and it might appear to be brighter. It fools the lens on the camera. For example I took a picture of the new Impreza with my silly little camera. The tails on a black Impreza look much brighter than on the red one.

I´m not saying that the white and silver DON'T have different tails, I´m just saying that this could be a photographic illusion, bright colors tricking the lens into making the chromed tails look darker. If the tails ARE different, then as I´ve said, I think many owners of different colors will swap theirs for the darker tails. But I really don´t see the purpose for Subaru to have different tails on just two colors, the brightest ones and leave the chromed for the darker colors.

My guess is they photoshopped the picture for whatever reason. The taillights on the white one are not just a little darker, they're all the way dark -- no detail at all. If the camera were that easily faked out by the color of the car, I'd expect it to royally screw up other details than just the taillights. Also, I expect that if they're even real pictures (as opposed to renderings, which seems more likely), they'd have used a pretty high quality camera that is not easily susceptible to such errors.

Either way, we will find out in just a few days. I've got this cynical attitude that believes a lot of the neato toys we've seen thus far won't make it to the USDM. Our version will probably weigh a hundred pounds more, won't have pushbutton start or all the illumination doo-dads inside, won't have Recaros or the option for them, and will only come with regular 17" BBS wheels in two different colors.

After reading through evolutionm, here, and NASIOC... most people are in favor of the new STi. A good number of EVO owners seem to be favoring it over the X also.

Hmm, I'm glad they kept the current STI logo. That means keeping the brand logo and identity and helps us ALL out.

I'm not a fan of that red internal lighting. You know what else has that setup? The VW GLI. That's right. Even the GLI has "red interior lighting" thats kinda annoying since you can't turn it off ever. Also, I thought wheel well lighting was illegal? I dunno.

The new instrument cluster is nice. Glad they kept it amber. For all you fellas planning on abondoning your current STIs for the new one, you can transfer over your Defi gauges w/o much trouble.

The gear shift knob looks nearly the same (or perhaps is the same).

Also notice that somehwere in all that japanese, it says 41/59 so they haven't changed that part of the DCCD.

Push start button? Oh dear. Why? Maybe weight savings ? LOL

It seems they definately refined the interior with subtle touches here and there (good thing). ALthough the current interior is already nice IMHO. The new revised thumbwheel for the DCCD control looks cool. The SI - Drive knob is ....well...that remains to be seen what kind of effect it has. HOw many people here would really leave it on "Intelligent?" Or would you just keep it permantly glued to "Sport Sharp" ? hehe

Ahh...so the weight hasn't gone up. It seems to have gone down a little bit. Surprising.

Still...a hatch
