Those are all subtleties that only enthusiast really notice, believe me. You know how many times people assumed my car was a Mitsu Evo despite having Subaru badges all over it? It happens all the time.

Well then that same people could mistake a Corvette for a Viper. A BMW for a Merc. A Zonda for an Enzo. A Porsche for a Beetle.

All I'm saying is, is that these alleged photos of the new STI places its designed very close to several other sporty hatches on the market. Not as distinct as I would have hoped. But, we'll wait and see in 2 weeks when it is officially released.

I see where youīre coming from and I understand. I just think that when weīll see it for ourselves it will be really distinct from most other hatches out there. Itīs a Subie

Considering the new EVO is said to be quieter inside the cabin, do you guys think the STi will be more civil than older models while just cruising?

I drove the regular Impreza a few days ago and it was quieter than the outgoing model plus the doors have this convincing "thud" when you close them instead of "bloinkclankclunkunkunkunkDING"

Did anyone notice that in the brochure the white and silver STIs appear to have smoked tail lights as opposed to the rest of the color options??

Yup, and I think itīs a photographic illusion because of the bright colors that the white and silver are, compared to the rest. Bright colors tend to make shiny objects look darker and dark colors make them look brighter.

However, if only those two have smoked tails, then I think many owners of other colors will do a swap for those, just tint theirs or make them red. I canīt see a reason for Subaru to give just these colors tinted tails and not the others.

I agree, looks like I'm going to have mine tinted.

Yes, very much so. I got to test drive an 08 WRX with my wife and noticed two things:

1. Road harshness is not transmitted into the cabin near as much as the old model. This is in part due to the new rear suspension as well as an overall more dampened suspension.

2. The framed windows really block out wind noise, so the cabin is definitely quieter.

Obviously, the STI will probably be a bit noisier than the WRX, but probably no where near as loud as the previous STIs.

I think I've noticed a pattern developing with people that own STIs. It seems most older owners that have owned 04-05s, bugeyes, and GCs, seem to like the new look, whereas the "pignose" owners (06-07) seem to feel the opposite.

I love the new look. I see what people are saying about the rear looking a bit chunky but it isn't that bad. The interior is awesome, in my opinion. Nice matched interior lights (red on red thank you Subaru), nice appointments, nice "gimmicky" but wanted features (buttons on steering wheel, push start, etc). Overall a huge improvement. I just hope we get the option for Recaros.

I'm sure the aftermarket will come through with monstrous wings you can hang off the back; then it will be easier to identify.

Great. It looks nice but I would like to see it in person. We should expect to get more than 306 HP since this is the JDM 2.0L version. Once again, USDM 2.5L with no forged internals. Also, new switch for the center differential. It looks good.
