yeah, shame on them for not totally redefining the hatchback form factor. May your snub drive them to the poor house and off the WRC. You sure showed Subaru!

That '08 is sad,no matter how you slice it.
Even dropping 325+hp wouldn't make up for that nasty new 'wanna-be crossover' body.
I,however, will have a blast easily whooping the asses of '08s and will look better doing it,in an older car!
...My '05,however,may (will) not appeal to 'soccer moms',and since that's not my aim,anyway...no great loss.

I stand by my humble opinion,"The 2008 STi is a turd."

I have to agree with this... It's the reason I picked up a used 05 instead of a new 06. My opinion has changed of course, and it might change with the 08... But the 06-07 change wasn't to a hatch back. Subaru didn't add a rear window spoiler because all of the other rally cars were doing. So why do they have to change to a hatch to accomodate to the others? It's just one more thing that seperated the Suby from the others and now it's gone.... But like most of you have said, We'll wait till it drops till we can have a full understanding of the car.... even if it is an ultra-minivan.

haha. I still feel that way even though I bought an 06 due to the fact 05 were long gone. But each time I see an 04-05 I can't help but to think I should have gotten in debt sooner

I've said it before but I'd tolerate the hatch look if the car had at least 350hp stock OR was under 3100 lbs OR had half the active difs gizmos the evo X has. Given it has none of the above and it looks bad and it will bre more expensive...I'll pass.

I can't see myself going from a previous sti to this thing. I rather spend the money on mods for my current car.

Have you ever read the specs for this car? It has multi-mode stability control and throttle response mapping as well as DCCD. In case you hadn't noticed, DCCD already has steering and yaw sensors as well as lateral G sensor input. It already had more active gizmos than most of the Evo models released here. If I recall correctly, the newest MR finally gave us AYC. So if we look at the active diff count, Evo X=2, STI=1. Does this mean it meets your criteria now?

Heh, they sure took them off the WRC cars because of what the other rally cars were doing. Actually it was what they weren't doing that did it.

No it does not. Subaru is not leading at all. they are just trailing mitsu and have been for awhile when it comes to torque distribution. I'm comparing the JDM versions against each other since they are stat of the art of each manufacturer.

AYC was around since the evo IV (that's 1996), SAYC in 2003 on the VIII. Subaru's torque distribution even in the 08 is not even up to the evo IX, subaru hasn't kept up AT ALL. SAYC has longitudinal and lateral as well as steering brakes and throttle since the freaking 8. as in 2 whole year models ago. We? well I'm sure you've read the Evo vs STi reviews out there for 2005,2006,2007 and ah, 2008 in US, eropean and Japanese markets. We trail in this area it's certainly no secret.

now I don't care for achronyms if the car handles better than one with 10 fancy words. But it doesn't ha ha. so....

True, teh evo is usually considered to be the better handler of the two. THe STI has never had anything that can be considered an electronic nanny of sorts. But both upcoming EVO X and STI will have them. THey can be turned off in both cars. But to me, its sounds like the EVO X has a lot more electronic widzardry going on. I think Road and Track mentioned this in one their articles, saying that the new STI will be more "of a drivers car" ...

LSE, I didn't say ANYTHING about Subaru leading in technology. If they have to lead the race in techno-wizardry to get your dollar, that's your deal, not mine. I pointed out that they offer more gadgetry than ever before and already had more techno junk included than older mitsu offerings. I even conceded that Mitsu had AYC, but not in our market until recently if I recall correctly. Don't put words in my mouth. Then I pointed out that if it was active diffs you were looking for, Subaru met your criteria. If you didn't want me to take your post literally, then fine.

I looked and I can't find proof that we ever got AYC in our Evolutions, can anyone outsearch me please? I fail...

I'm pretty sure the new Evo has lots more electronic wizardry as well. And it definitely will have more active diffs that the STI, AYC is supposed to be coming to our side of the pond! Just look at the times it puts in around a track compared to the IX despite being quite a bit heavier.
