IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2007 Trader Rating: (6) | not everything aftermarket means its better for our cars. i hear the stock one actually works best with preventing the most in heat temps. simply by how it is constructed. all the others are pure cosmetic. |

IWSTI Addict since: May 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | Had a quick Q about the heat shields in general: Do they make any noticeable difference in performance? Or is it just a part longevity thing...? also, is this something that only becomes necessary on a modded engine, or can a stock engine benefit from adding a heat shield? Thanks! |

| Professional STI Racer | The wideband shouldnt be that close to the turbo anyway. ALso, really the heathsheilds are high enough that even on the downpipes that have the wideband right up top (like the Cobb), the wideband is back and down far enough that it wont hit the heatsheild, so I wouldnt sweat that. If you dont have your wideband installed yet (as far as bung welded into the pipe), just have it done a bit more down the pipe (because that is how you should do it anyway )Quote:
On the heat sheilds: The SPT one is nice, but having had one, and held it in my hands, I can tell you that without ceramic coating, or putting thermotec on it like in the one pic earlier in this thread, its not going to do a whole heck of a lot. I THINK it will work with the factory heat sheild in place, if so you REALLY should run both. My buddy has the Cobb, its nice, a decent bit thicker, but again, coat it or stick thermotec on it. Do that with any heat sheild. If you are worried about heatsoak, nothing is going to beat a good blanket. Be it something serious like what I am running, or even the thremotec kit (which is a nice kit since it comes with some wrap for the downpipe as well) The blanket+wrap kit with a heatsheild as well would be damn near unbeatable. I mean SOMETHING is better than nothing, just direct heat radiating up into the TMIC, but really, just a single heatsheild is going to be pretty limited as far as its effectiveness. That said, OEM heatsheild+Cobb or SPT would be very nice. | |

| Professional STI Racer | I got it locally, from Protech Performance I know others carry them, I saw one on a car at Andrewtech, and I have seen them on tons of Surpas and such. Baddest ass wrap I have ever seen. You would need at least a TD06 hot side for it to fit even close to properly though. It fits perfect on a GT30/35R though. That is what it was really made for to begin with. Although I bet they may make it for other turbos... Accessories/Controls: atpturbo.com has a couple REALLY cool heatsheilds if you have a T3/T4 hot side turbo. |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | Does anyone know if turbo blankets are flammable like header wrap? If so it looks like a simple oil leak at the center section could cause an engine fire. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
