Default oil cooler

...ok i know what it does but what are the benifits of it...any downsides...

price. you will need a thermostat so that you are only using the cooler when you need it.

oil below 190* does not function optimally. I can't back up exactly why but many sources cite this as the optimal temp for oil. Thus the need for thermostats if you live in a colder area.

you might also have problems with oil changes if you don't do them yourself.

The STi comes with an engine oil cooler and a transmission oil cooler from the factory.

05's even added a steering oil cooler.

No need to add these, you already have em.

IIRC from the factory its not an oil cooler, but rather a heat exchanger. But i have been told by a LOT of people that our cars do not need them. I know a few people running T2 cars, and NONE of them have oil coolers.

The metal block we screw our oil filters into is pumped with coolant. It works well enough for most driving, but on the track I have seen the coolant slowly lose the battle.

Upgrade the radiator first. Becuase when you do that you actually are in a way upgrading your oilcooler also, since your oil cools from the heat exchange method as mentioned above.

Depending on how you look at it. An oil cooler is always a good safety percaution. But you might as well use the money on a something else that will be more useful.
