My frontmount ticket was actually "emissions smog" which i'm pretty sure is the same ticket for exhaust. The cop will give you a number and he will tell you you have to go see a state ref. but all you have to do is go pay the ticket. It is a little expensive though ($340), but worth it if it only happens once every year or two.
Your front mount has absolutely nothing to do with the emissions status of your car

Something like that would be worth fighting in court imo. You could probably even convince the cop on the spot what its function is. I heard they are strict on CA emissions, but that's a little ridiculous.

Thank God for the redneck counties down south in VA where they don't require emissions. I am a longtime "resident" of those areas =p

N2(g) + O20(g) <--> 2NO(g)
2NO(g)+O2(g)<-->2NO2(g)
no cat
Hot exhaust gas + Air ----> CO2 + H20
Hydrocarbon--->CO2 + H20
CO--->CO2
with the cat
NO/NO2--->cat--->N2 + O2

i.e. using the cobb catted turboback results in nitrogen and oxygen being spit out versus CO2 creeping out. didn't care before he made the point that all that crap in the atmosphere from non catted exhausts REALLY f**cks up your paint, health, ect when it hits the ground with the rain.
just some info...
Yep, going back to high flow cat today.... for that reason mainly, but also, so I can stay in STU class.
