IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2005 Trader Rating: (4) | Both bovs are dope, but they tend to make our cars run too lean, even when protuned it will backfire alot. with the sard you need to run an 04 intercooler y pipe because it bolts on under the intercooler. so you need to find that as well. honestly bro, just run with either APS or AVO so you can recirculate and you will have no loss in power whatsoever. besides you can get them for about $200 anywhere. unless you want a meaner sound, go with HKS. |

It plays no role in the tuning process. Also, if you have any catalytic converters, kiss them goodbye if you're blowing off to the atmosphere |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 Trader Rating: (3) | Another, "which bov to get thread" Im not trying to be mean here, but do a search! You'll then realize that getting an aftermarket bov for the stock turbo/stock psi is just dumb, and in the end hurts the performance of our car. But if your dead set on getting a bov, do us all a favor and atleast get a 100% recirculating one, but thats not even necessary because in the first place all you have to do is keep your stock bpv. <---------------FTW! |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 Trader Rating: (1) | Do a search. And find that everyone will say "BOVs are bad." And that is about all you will find. Very little actual information on why. If you have a BOV that only vents between shifts, then you are not going to have any problems. Problems occur when you have a setup that vents at part throttle (if you want a shining example, disconnect the bypass hose on the stock bypass valve ). During the time the BOV is venting, you will run rich, because you are releasing metered air prior to combustion. If this is for short periods of time, such as between shifts, it will be a non-issue. If, however, your BOV vents during part throttle, you have two problems to deal with -- first, an extended interval of rich operation, which can do things like harm catalytic converters; and second, if the ECU is in closed loop it will erroneously try to correct the mixture by pulling fuel. Later on it may use this incorrect data and run lean. The short answer is the one everyone gives -- skip the BOV. However, if you want one, get it, and figure out how to keep it from venting except between shifts. How to accomplish that is a whole different discussion. Dave |
