Hmmm... Maybe the 2006 is different. But the location they show to move the ground to already has a bolt in it. So no extra bolt needed. I just did it and it worked out.

BTW, I was wrong about the clutch lever possibly hitting the FPR. I thought the lever was going to move backwards, but I had my wife depress the clutch while I watched, and it went forwards instead. Silly me. No problems.

Sorry if I've missed it, but what is the benefit of adding this inlet pipe? From the pics it looks like more possible air flow and no collapsing issues compared to other inlet pipes.

Is this a worthwhile mod on a stock turbo? What's that approximated power gain here?

Yep, this is exactly right. On my 2005 anyway. I didn't need anything other than what was already there and what came with the inlet to do my install.

On a stock turbo there really is no benefit, maybe better airflow but nothing you will feel. However if you have ever had to remove your stock turbo, it might be a good idea, as the stock turbo inlet hose rips incredibly easily. Mine ripped when my stock turbo had to be removed. When you get an upgraded turbo, its much easier to fit an aftermarket inlet tube on too, and it won't rip. The APS is a nice unit because it will never collapse, and also gives you the option of either using a 2.4" inlet or a 3" inlet. Other then added security or bling, an upgraded turbo inlet hose is rather worseless on a stock turbo. I'd save it for when you get a turbo upgrade.

^^ thanks Focus. I'm just trying to narrow the last bits for my end-of-April Protune with Doug @ TS.

Ok daemon. I don't get it. Explain it to me ...

Of course there was a bolt there. That is where the ground was. You reuse that bolt to bolt the FPR in. You use the bolt they give you to bolt the FPR to the new bracket. What bolt do you use to bolt the ground to the new location?????

The ground was bolted down in location A. The bolt in location A stays in location A and is used to hold down the FPR bracket. The ground is moved from location A to location B. Location B has a bolt in it already that is holding down a bracket which is attached to a small coolant line. The ground wire just attaches to location B over the bracket using the bolt that is already there. And the supplied bolt attachs the FPR to the gold bracket (location C).

I can post a picture if you want, though the picture would be identical to the one in the PDF supplied by APS.

Edit: Could it be that you bolted the ground to a different location? There is an empty hole tapped for the same size bolt more towards the center of the block. Maybe you guys moved the ground to there?

T,
He is dead right with his explanation. There is a picture like he says in the PDF on the APS website showing the location to move the ground to. That picture matched perfectly to my car. I can't really imagine the 06' being any different. Like I said before, mine installed to a "T" per the install instructions. No extra parts needed nor left over, except the 2.4" inlet boot and clamps.

daemon / JDM-STI,

That explains it. There was no bolt in that location on nhluhr's '06 STI. The '06 STI is different. You guys have that bolt there because it holds down the breather pipe (top pipe on the dual pipe setup that you have to hack up and separate). nhluhr's breather pipe was not like that. His was substantially shorter than the '04-'05 pipe and, thus, there was no mount at that location for the pipe .... and, therefore, no bolt. Another bolt should be included for the '06 STI. Maye nhluhr took a picture of this .. I think he did.

This is a bolt that holds a metal bracket which holds a flexible coolant line. It is not holding the hard double breather tube. This must be another difference in the 2006 I suppose. Seriously, it looks exactly like the photo in the PDF file on our earlier cars. Honest.

The only problem I had during the install was getting the silcon hose (turbo side)over the new inlet pipe. There wasn't much room between the TGV and the inlet. I had to push/pull on a bunch of stuff for a little bit. Everything else seems to be fine.

Hey all, I just got my pipe yesterday and plan on installing it tomorrow. I have the instructions printed out, and I know all of you who have done it followed it to a T. I have asked before, and no one seemed to know the answer, but why does APS have you doing all the rerouting of hose? Is there some benefit? It doesn't clearly state in the instructions why they have you cut here, grind here, modify this. Maybe I'm missing something here, but I can't figure out WHY the install is so complicated. Just curious. Any ideas?

Because the fuel pressure regulator has to be relocated. Plus this pipe is huge compared to the stocker. But, it's all worth it. Next to my FP Red, this maybe my favorite mod.
