| Professional STI Racer | Dam its been a very long time since ive posted/asket a question on here. Ive been too focused on driving techiniques. Anyways to my question. Im going to go for a 06 WRX during the summer. The 06 has a 2.5L yes? Now is it the same 2.5L as the STI? Does the block hold the same amount of power? "i know the diff. is the turbo this time" And can I put STi engine mods on to the 06 2.5L? like the 2.5L GT spec headers and STi manifold? Peace! This ad is not endorsed by this member. I'm not sure about all the details, but when I was looking at an 06 WRX TR, the dealership said it was pretty much the same engine as the STi just de-tuned. I was thinking about just upgrading the parts needed to make the WRX perform more like the STi, but then I got greedy and and didn't want to do all that work when I could just have an STi right then. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (30) | Well I know that the TR version is the Tuner Ready version of the WRX, being that it has I think: No radio, and crappier seats or something. Basic stuff, no flash. I would think for a good guess that, the engine in the WRX is prob the same block, but the pistons and internals are not the same *power wise or such*. I am just guessing, but its something to consider. Also, one other thing, I know that the earlier WRX had tranny probs when people started modding the engines. I remember the dealer mechanics telling me stories of guys messing up the trans from power mods that effective it. Thats something else to consider too. Either way good luck with the car, and post pics! |

| Professional STI Driver | If you plan on going crazy with engine mods then just get the WRX and save money for mods, but then again make sure your insurance will pay for almost everything if something happens .... A lot of insurance companies nowadays will not insure you if they find out you have a heavily modified car. Nationwide is one of them, but then again it all depends on your agent/adjuster. I had bad luck with my previous VW R32 that had a supercharger. I was involved in a small accident. They covered the damagec for the accident, but then dropped me because they found out about the supercharger, so just be careful. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | If you're just looking for a 300hp WRX, then mod a TR. Consider though that the STi will have the 6mt, Brembos, etc. that would be very expensive to replicate in the TR. |

| Professional STI Racer | yea i know. none have yet answered my question, but one still wasnt enough Screw TR. Ugly seats. add $1k and i get a wing "no wing it looks a$$less" and of course the seats=WRX. I just want to know if i can or not on the engine. Not going to go all engine mod crazy once i get it. Im more focused on the hadeling. So suspension will go 1st with me But i just want to know if its the same or not. |
