Default surge help

I think what I'm experiencing is compressor surge. From what I've researched, it has symptoms of what people claim to be compressor surge (low boost/low rpm shifts, i hear a flutter sound... high boost shifts, i hear the regular BOV whoosh).

What I'd like to know is, is my problem coming from my wastegate or my BOV? I have a TurboXS type H BOV and I have a stock STi vf39 and a cai at below 3000 rpm i get this turbo sound like a psh psh psh from the turbo not the bov at above 3000 rpm the bov blows off fine am i getting surge? and can i tell if its surge by the boost gauge?
Sorry... this research has confused me.

its only when i have lil to no boost its a sha sha sha

That sounds like compression surge, but since it is at little to no boost it isn't going to cause any major problems. If you are getting this while winding out fourth, fifth, and sixth gears then that is a different story. I haven't heard of high boost surge on the stock turbo. On a 20g it can and will happen and I had that problem. First thing you need to do is loosen the inner spring on the bov so that is allows for easier flow. If you had a larger turbo there are also tuning adjustments to be made.

That sound is a Tial bov blowing off. Its distinct sound has a frequency like compression surge plus a tone.

Man I hate to say it, but the way your describing it is making it hard for anyone to understand what is happening. Can we get a sound clip of YOUR car? That might really help us help you.

It is surge. Its at low RPM when the throttle body is closed you are getting some compression coming back at the spinning compressor wheel (causing the sound) since it is not quite free enough to pass through the bpv and into the intake. Thats what it is.
