Default Why are prices so high for uprgraded turbos?

i have been looking for a turbo upgrade for about 6 monthes now and i have looked at all of them, zilla's, APS, greens, but my question is....why are they so much when compared to a nondeadbolt turbo. i have a buddy with turbo eclipse that has a 60-1 housing and he only has about 800 in his. its just so weird that ours are almost double.

this is so true, but i mean all that separtes a deadbolt from a non is a flange, so that flange is $800.00 more

now correct me if i am wrong but what exactly classifies them as junk. you can buy an GSX eclipse, put about 3-4 grand into it and be running mid 11's all day long.
one must have love for all awd's.

Not only that ^ but remember guys that (Of course we arent in here to argue points) its not necessarily because the name mitsu or eclipse may sound like junk... but the "4G63" Engine takes a Lickin' and keeps on tickin'

Economy of scale. The same reason Civic parts are inexpensive. Not because one car is bad or good. If you sell 500,000 units you spread the tooling and R&D costs among 500,000 people. If you only sell 50,000 units that cost is spread among fewer people. That why. Has nothing to do with Eclipses being cheap or crappy. If you don't have a legit answer other than "STi is teh fAstar" then don't post.

They are starting to come down. Static X has a Forced Performance 20G turbo for ~ $1000. That's pretty good in my book.

right, let me add..
not to mention there is a lot more to our turbos rather than a "regular" turbo.. the exhaust side is almost completely diffirent so it can match up to our down pipe.. there is just a lot more to it than just a turbo its self.. take a gt30r for ex.. you can get those pretty cheap.. but you also have to change your whole setup to get it to work..
hey immature, you need to hit me up man so we can talk about stuff like this

but its not just a flange that's different, it's the entire exhaust housing. Tooling they to be cast is not cheap

I was getting annoyed with the "Mistu are crap" responses. I love cars and their are many fun car to be had a every price range. Even the riced out Honda's running around. At least they are doing something they enjoy. It was starting to sound like Nabisco in here.
