I honestly prefer the PL14610 to the OEM black one. The filtration medium is excellent in the PureOne, and since it's got more active filter area, it'll not only filter better, but filter longer.
That's an interesting point about using the slightly larger filter. It does seem as though there would be no downsides to doing this, just the added benefit of more filtration. Do you think it would affect the oil pressure in any way, though?

You're adding about a tenth of a quart of capacity to a 4-and-some quart system. That's a 2ish% difference. I don't see any way that could have any real-world impact on oil pressure---it changes a lot more than this just because of ambient air temp.

well i went to my dealer yesterday for a new filter and they didnt have any of the blacks left only the whites
i told them the story of recalls and the head manager said he sent back about 50 of the suspect filters and got new white ones
serial number F07R18E1
after research looks like this will be a good filter(better than leaky one)

I made my 30 grand oil change today and used my last black Roki filter ... Next filter I'm using is the slightly larger Purolator PureOne PL14610 that people mentioned before .... same quality as the new ones Subaru is releasing ...

Funny I ran into this thread today - I was out installing my EGT sensor earlier and noticed that my *white* oil filter was leaking - I bet it should have been part of the recall. Gonna have to go ***** out the dealer now

There is a huge thread on nasioc regarding the issues with the new filters. The thread also contains a list of serial numbers of non-defective filters. But I still dont trust the new filter.

Got my 50 so I'm happy! And they are the "old" black ones.

I have no idea how the oil system on the STi directs flow, but I can say this:

If the all of the oil channels run in a single SERIES, including the filter, than a larger filter would only change oil pressure if it was the bottleneck in the system, which I doubt it would be.

If the oil filter is in PARALLEL to the other parts of the system, then a larger filter with less restriction to flow would result in less pressure in all other parallel circuits. This is the same as having someone start the dishwasher while you are in the shower, though less extreme.
