Question BOV and intake question...

whats going on guys.. i just got an 05 STi about 2 weeks ago and all i have done is a turboxs downpipe, high flow cat, and turboxs 3" catback.. i have heard that blow-off valves actually decrease power and if i put on an intake, i will actually lose power as well.. will i need a tune if i add an intake or are there intakes/bov on the market that will actually help??? appreciate any help.. thanks...

Not on a stock turbo. I have both and yes they make you lose power. I've noticed that I actually lose some low end torque due to the intake also. I have both just for noise/dork purposes, but they do cost you power.

Depends, if you get a recirculating BOV then not much, but it won't sound much different from the stock one. If your BOV is partly or fully atmospheric then it will be much louder, but will cause you to run rich between shifts and will probably cause your car to studder. There aren't any exact numbers, but I've heard of 10-20 hp/tq being a common loss with atmospheric BOV's.

Default get em

Consider saving the $$ on the intake and BOV and get a tune or some EM to go along with the turboback if you already haven't done so. If you've already done the em/tune, then do stiffer springs. Many people are happier with that. Good luck , that's just my opinion

That is not true! A BOV is purely for the sound, there is no power gain or loss associated with it. The intake depending on if it is a CAI or short ram can cause a decrease if it is not tuned. There are no problems runing them if you tune the car for these mods.....
